HELP! I start nursing school next semester and I'm failing a class :(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey you guys....I need some encouragement. I have been accepted into nursing school to start Spring 2010. At my school you have to take Pharmacology, Patho and intro nursing before you can even begin the program. I am doing good in all of my classes including micro. My only problem is Pharmacology. I have not been doing so well in that class, I need to make a 95 on my final which is 94 questions so that means I can only miss 4 questions to make a 95! I am freaking out my final is on Dec 10th and I started studying today. How am I suppose to make a 95 on a final when on the past 3 exams Ive barley even passed! If I fail this class then I will not be able to begin nursing school in the spring and I cant even apply to the program anymore! Any encouragement would help, I keep telling myself I can do it, I have plenty of time until the final but then I start thinking negative thoughts :crying2:

Well I'm not in the program just yet. I've applied and hoping to start in the Fall and at my school we don't do all of those classes you mentioned before starting the program. But I think you are really stressing out worse by focusing on only missing 4 problems on your final test. You've made it this far...you are almost done with this class. You can do this! Don't psych yourself out. :) Good Luck! Let us know how you do.

Thank you sooo much! I will keep you updated :)

try this website if it don't work tell me and I will try to find another for you...i bet it is hard we don't take it until we are actually in the nursing program and i like being helpful..so good luck!!!!

I know that you are feeling a lot of stress right now which is to be expected! However, I think that you will definitly have to settle down mentally to be able to do this...that means maybe sitting in a quiet spot and meditating and visualizing yourself being calm and thinking on a positive outcome. You should probably do that in between studying your BEHIND OFF and being extremely serious about this to the exclusion of anything else frivolous like going out. I think that since you made it this far, it is totally in you to continue on, so just tell yourself that over and over and meditate/pray whenever you can! Just my two cents

Thank you Inquiring mind and Tiffjh2

I have been studying my butt off during thanksgiving week and I have made a plan on what to study each day and to make sure I comprehend it! I really appreciate your advice!

I am thinking positive thoughts now & I am going to do my very best on final. :)

I can relate to you right now.. I am having a similar problem.. I took on to much this semester Microbiology Lec and Lab, Anatomy Lec and Lab, American History, Wt lifting.. I am still working full time and have a 2 year old child. I was accepted for the Nursing program for the Spring Semester so while I waited I took my bridging classes to have them out of the way while in LVN program, but my problem is I started doing badly in my biology classes because I had gotton sick alot this semester, and just received a letter stating from my financial aid dept that if I don't pass all my classes that I do not get any more financial aid, and that is the only way to pay for school at this point because I have already put in my notice at work and they have hired someone to take my position because I thought I would be starting program....

I have been studying my butt off to pass all upcoming tests because there is a small chance of me still passing both classes.. I have been praying and I hope that in the end that I pull this off with a C in both classes ...

Good Luck to all in similar situations....

If you barely passed 3 exams in your class your exams must not have been worth a very large percentage of your grade. If they were worth a decent portion of your grade them I'm afraid you may be already past the point of no return. Mathematically it's almost impossible that you could earn a grade of 95% if you really did bomb all of those tests. The truth is they expect us to have solid A in Pharmacology because it's very important as Nurses that we understand the material. It sounds like you need to repeat the class. If it puts you behind your intended schedule that's okay as long as you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep trying you will reach your goal. Focus on learning what you need to learn to become the best nurse you can be and don't worry if you have to repeat a class to get it down cold.

Thank you for your input,

The way my school does the grading is as follows....We have a blog project that is worth 15% of our grade. We also have quizzes that are worth 9% of the grade, My first exam was worth 16% and the other 3 are worth 20%...they will not calculate any of the quizzes or Blog project ( which I did extremely well on) in the final grade unless my test avg is above 70 so even if I have a 69.99 test avg, and I get 13% on my blog project and I have 9% quiz average i will still make a D. So this is why I need to make a 95 on the final bc I need to get my test avg over a 70. The rule at my school is you have to have a final test average of 70% or higher and if your test average is above 70% then they will add in the blog project and quiz grades. If the test average is not....you make a D and they wont add the project or quiz grade in. Sorry If I confused you, its kinda hard to explain when your typing. I understand that I need to have a solid foundation of Pharmacology and I know I will if I make an A on this final exam. Again thank you for your advice :)

Good Luck Purplerain! I'm just studying as much as I can and I am understanding the information better now, maybe I do good under pressure lol But I dont wanna be put in this situation ever AGAIN! The way I look at it, is at least we still have a chance of passing! My friend is in the same position too! and she actually needs to make a 102! My teachers does not put bonus questions on the exam, so she pretty much knows its over for her. At least we still got a shot! I'm sending good vibes to you! Let me know how it goes.

Well I wish you the best! Just study hard and think positive, and make sure you get a good night's rest before the test. You can do it!
