Help! How Long do California Board of Nursing Issue an Interim Permit/ATT to Nurses

Published

Hello everyone. I'm also a Filipina Nurse who was petitioned by an employer and was luckily granted an immigrant visa. Now I'm already here in California (Chula Vista) waiting for my interim permit. Anyone of you on the same boat before. How long will the California Board of Nursing issue an interim permit or ATT. My application was filed September 2005 and until now I have not receive yet my ATT. My employer told me that I can't work if I don't have my interim permit and I'm already more than a month now here in US jobless. I already have my green card with me, social security number and it's upsetting that I can't start working.I highly appreciate any responses to my post.thank you

Hi

Probably 4 months after you have sent your application and then ATT will be issued by Pearson VUE if you are eligible i think you can apply yes. For interim permit its on the way HOPEFULLY they are fast over there my friend told me so NO WORRIES ITS ON THE WAY OKEY GOODLUCK

Until they approve your credentials to be able to sit for the NCLEX exam, they will not issue you the Interim Permit. The interim permit is only given when you meet all requirements for licensure, except for taking the exam. It will not be issued earlier.

Sorry, but shame on your employer. The earliest that I have ever seen an ATT issued for a foreign grad is 4 months, and can take up to six months, if not longer. This is why I never, ever recommend CA for a foreign grad, especially one in a hurry. It would have been much faster for you to go to a state like Vermont, if you have already passed CGFNS, and then just endorse. And that could have been done in one day if you would drive to the BRN office in Sacramento.

Sorry, but no. A foreign grad should never apply to Pearson-Vue until they actually have the approval of the state that they are applying to. A date cannot be scheduled before that, so it never makes sense.

Plus, if for some reason that a nurse would have issues with the BON is whatever state, they will not get the money refunded from Pearson-Vue.

Once you give them the money, it belongs to them. Plus, once the ATT gets issued, you have only 90 days to take the exam, or you lose the money paid, as well.

Hi Suzanne,

Last November , I received my "Letter of Eligibility from the CA-BON to take the NCLEX. I also applied for the Interim permit when I submitted my application to the BON. Together with the elibility letter, I also received the "Authorization to apply for the Interim Permit." Since, I am a foreign graduate, the CA-BON told me to apply for it the moment I set foot in the CA. They can not issue it to me because , if they issue that and I am still here in the Philippines, the interim permit might expire.

Suzanne, my question is, since I already have the "authorization." How long will wait after I file for it?

Thanks.

thank you so much suzanne and cheyeree for your reply on my post.i do appreciate it a lot. i hope everything will be fine soon. i'm really so upset with my employer because when i'm still in the philippines i requested their office that i should be applying early for the nclex if they will assign me in their california facility but they ignored my request with no funds to sustain my nclex application i waited for their packet forms.

Just contact them as soon as you arrive. You will still need to get a SSN# once you arrive, and you will get the IP before that arrives.:)

Hello Rep. I'm glad you did received your eligibility and your interim permit already. Me. it's taking so long. When are you coming over here and what place in California are you going to work? There are a lot of Filipino nurses here in California. Most of my classmates are here also.

I did not received my interim permit. Only the authorization to file ofr it. I have to be in the US to apply for it. This 3rd week of February, Mountain view is the place where I will work.

i have applied for my rn-nclex licensure exam and interim permit a month ago, i didnt know it takes that long to get the att and interim permit, i am already here in san francisco arrived last dec via fiance visa. While waiting for my interim permit, i have to find ways to earn money so i have applied for a caregiver job in one of the homecare companies here in sanfrancisco, its okay for now and besides the company which hired me promised to offer me a nursing position once i have my interim permit already. Im just concerned though because i have been out of practice for 16 yrs only got back when i took a 6 mo, refresher clinical training at phil general hospital in manila last year, i dont know if hospitals here would be willing to hire me even if i pass nclex knowing ive been away for 16 years. Im just wondering if they would ask me to take a refresher course or they would just give me enough orientation? my self-esteem is really low, even the caregiver job im still doubting myself if i could do it, my co-workers are homeheath or cna certified and i have a feeling they know more nursing skills than me, if there are nurses in same situation like me, pls i would like to hear from you too.

HI, am a fresh graduate nursing student. am thinking of ways on how to hasten my application for nclex. I'm applying for california state licensure exam. I have a question would it be possible if I send my application in us through my friend whose going to us a few days from now but with a return adress here in the philippines? can I send my application even with my HARD CARD? How do I obtain a HARD CARD?
