  1. Hi neverending, Yeah finally i got hired by an SNF here in playa del rey ca where i live, as an RN 3-11 supervisor. Thanked God after 2mos. of looking i finally found one. I'm still on orientation right now, and so far so good, i like the people i work with, they seemed nice and supportive. Thanks by the way for asking.
  2. Thanks for all your replies, i appreciate it. And Harleyhead sorry for the minor error in grammar. I was writing the post hastily earlier, didn't notice it, thanks anyway for the advice. Actually from my experience when i go to facilities to apply, they don't really ask for a hard copy of my resume, so i never bring one, they just ask you to fill up their application form. Anyway I guess i'll just have to be more patient, for sure i'll find one soon.
  3. I am an RN and i have worked in an snf setting for almost 2 years and have some supevisory experience. Last month i resigned from the snf i was working for in granada hills ca here in LA county because i moved to another city which is farther and i don't want to go through the hassles of long commute. Thinking that since i'm an RN with some experience i wouldn't have a hard time applying for a nursing home job here in los angeles, but i guess that's not the case because its more than a month now and still i have not found one. So far I have inquired, went and filled up applications in 10 facilities but no response, a couple did but its always like "we might be anticipating a vacancy for an rn position soon, will call you or i'll call you when we need one". I'm scared i don't know how long will it take for me to find a job, but i wont stop trying. If anyone here knows of a nursing home in los angeles, santa monica, culver city area needing an RN , i would really appreciate an information.
  4. thanks suzanne! im excited at the same time nervous because i havent had clinical exposure for a while, my last was in 05 so i know its gonna be overwhelming at first for me, but its ok everything is like that in the beginning, i just have to adapt myself and i really hope and pray ill be given a supportive preceptor.
  5. Thank you for giving me this info i really appreciate it!!! I actually emailed the recruiter before i slept last night that i have to decline the job opportunity he's offering me at st. mary's, because i talked it out with my husband and i think we're not yet ready to relocate at this time because i just arrived here in the US coming from the Philippines and we dont have savings yet, so its still best for me to start work here first in sanfran then maybe in the future when i have enough savings and want to live in another place then i can do that. The recruiter was really trying his darn best to convince me, he said there's 5K sign-on bonus, relocation assistance, twice a year increase in salary and so on so forth and these benefits are all being offered to a new grad, it sounded so perfect. The thing i didnt like though i was asking for a med-surg area, but he was insisting and convincing me to try telemetry and set me up right away with the director at the telemetry dept. But anyway its okay, the DON of the nursing home that i applied to here in sanfran called me up today and i will be starting work on feb 13, they have a good reputation and they're privately owned not chain and they give 31/hr pay for new grad, lesser than a hospital new grad pay here in the bayarea which is 36/hr, but for a foreign nurse and a first job here in the US thats more than enough, and besides its tough for a new grad foreign nurse with no US work experience to get into hospitals here in the bayarea.
  6. Anyone who have worked, currently working or knows someone who works in this teaching hospital? I received a phone call from one of their recruiters today and he set me up with a phone interview with the director of the telemetry dept. there, i just said yes, even if i already have an offer in a nursing home here in sanfran where i live, im just waiting for their call for the orientation date. Anyway its just a phone interview, the interviewer may or may not like me. I got interested because for one its a hospital, then they provide relocation assistance, they have 5k sign-on bonus, they're union, they have salary increases twice a year (i dont know if that's true though, that's what the recruiter said) and its a new grad position and long beach is a nice area to live. Now im confused, i dont know if i can still back out from the nursing home if i choose to accept the hospital's offer if they like me, the nursing home here has a good reputation though, they're jewish-owned and they have good benefits as well, though it doesnt include a sign-on bonus.
  7. Try to go to the site of TELECARE CORP. they have different programs/facilities across california. I was able to talk to one recruiter here in sf/bayarea where i live.
  8. Hi i already took the exam last dec.15 and like you i also passed at 75. I prayed a lot too, i guess it really helped, where are you in cali? im here in sf, have you started looking for work already?
  9. thanks everyone for your supportive replies and for giving info on IVs in LTC, i havent started yet, tomorrow i still have to do pre-employment physical then ill know when ill start, its a skilled nursing facility so they do have residents with IV.
  10. yeah i would definitely take the position once they make the final offer after the pre-employment physical, even the pay they're offering is less than the other hospitals who want to consider me outside san francisco, at least i know i would be in a facility that from what ive heard and what i could feel cares for the staff, and the good thing with their new grad program is they would do monthly assessments to check on how im progressing in the training, what are my concerns etc. and they would do that up to my 3rd month of employment, then after that i could be totally on my own, but still could have someone senior that i could ask for if i am uncertain about things from time to time. And my husband and i arent ready yet for relocation right now, it might be a hassle.
  11. Thanks suzanne for the info, ill tell her that, but i think she knows that there's retrogression right now, that's why she said she's gonna time it when there are available visas already. Yeah i think she has to consider the time she has to spend in the US before she would be able to work in the us to get those paperworks that will permit her to legally work, its going to be hard without income, though i have another friend who did that but his family was well off in the philippines, they send money to the US for him for his daily existence while waiting for his status to be legal.
  12. i have a friend who has a tourist visa and plans to take the NCLEX-RN exam in california once she has her ATT already(of course she has to time it when there are visas for nurses available). She has a nurse relative in CA who would help her to get into a hospital which sponsors foreign nurses once she pass, she's asking if she actually passes and already has a hospital who will sponsor in CA to adjust her status, while she's already there would IELTS still be required or any other english exams?
  13. i havent heard of a nursing home directly hiring nurses from the philippines, usually the large chain nursing homes hire nurses from the philippines thru an affiliate staffing agency, like my friend she's now working in a nursing home in queens new york which is part of a chain of nursing homes, she said her work is so exhausting! the staffing ratio is bad, imagine at night shift she is alone and has to take care of 2 floors with 40 pts. each, even if she has cnas still its pretty bad. She said little by little she's adjusting, good thing that friend of mine is kind of smart and strong so i guess she can handle the job. But there are some nursing homes also with a pretty descent staffing ratio or nursing homes that are just skilled nursing facility with no subacute area, rehab or ventilator beds, so its less stressful. Anyway that guy he's into something, you dont have to pay for lawyers fee, its shouldered by the facility sponsoring you direct.
