good day!
im from the philippines and i just passed the 2007 NLE. i've been completing my requirements for NJ since september but i still find some things baffling. Here's my question:
The NJ application form mentioned TOEFL as a requirement. However, i read in a post from CGFNS that, "NJ-BON also requires proof that the applicant has achieved a passing score on the English Proficiency examinations required by the DHS" I searched DHS and found out that they also approve IELTS (aside from TOEFL, etc.) Therefore, is it correct for me to think that NJ-BON will accept IELTS instead of TOEFL?
I hope someone (specially those who got their NLCEX eligibility/passed the NCLEX for NJ) could help me since i have already emailed NJ-BON and CGFNS but still, to no avail. help!!
CES does not require English exam but the BON does and so does the VSC. You need to arrange your English exam results to go to the BON and once you are ready for VSC will need to arrange results to go to ICHP. As I read it you do not need English exam for the BON to give ATT but before they issue you with a license you need pass in English and criminal background check. Depending on how long CES takes would then add a couple months ontop for BON to give OK to sit exam, this is a rough estimate as no telling how long CGFNS will take but probably looking at 4 months ish
so, you mean i can take the NCLEX first, then the english proficiency test? if so, that's great news.:biere:
hmmmm...another question...but will the CGFNS release the CES report to NJ even though i haven't taken any english proficiency exams yet? :selfbonk:
well, actually in my case, im a bit in a hurry.im a june 2007 passer and i think i have been wasting a lot of my time already because of the long wait for the results and all...i hate being idle for a very long time. *sigh* i also feel pressured since i feel that ive already been left behind by my classmates.

could you guys give me an advice on what to do? im one really confused kid. ayayay. apart from this NCLEX thing, i have also been contemplating on applying to phil. hospitals already (like PHC st. lukes and UST) since i heard that hosp also have loooonng processing time (especially in PHC). do you think it's a good idea to do so or should i just wait for the NJ eligibility and apply after that. gosh..i really dont know what to do first.
You are trying to do a lot of things all at once.
You are waiting for your eligibility for NJ, right? The most logical and safest thing to do is to just keep reviewing for your NCLEX during the wait time. Many review for less than 2-3 months for their NCLEX; this may be enough for US grads but in my obeservations this isn't enough for Philippine grads. There are just too many that were not taken up or if taken up, only devoted less time to it. Remember, foreign-educated nurses only have less than 50% passing rate. There will be times when it goes to the 50-60% range but over-all it has traditionally been less than 50%. Some MD-RNs also commit the mistake of not devoting enough time on reviewing for their NCLEX exam but not all pass it. A significant number flunks it as well.
Take everything one step at a time, esp. when there is retrogression right now.
You really can't study for NCLEX and be at work at the same time. Of course, you can but you run the risk of failing the exams for muti-tasking. Some even fails even after devoting the much needed time to studying and even on high fee review centers, what more for someone working and it's really best to review when eveything is still fresh on your mind.
You may apply now for the hospitals if you want, esp. if the hospitals you are applying to have a long processing time but reviewing for your NCLEX is your priority. After you pass the NCLEX, you can do whatever you want, esp. since we are in retrogression. But by passing the NCLEX even before you work already gives you the advantage of looking for an employer to petition you and let the process start (which is very long at these times of retrogression). You will still be better off than someone working now and haven't even devoted much time on preparing for the NCLEX exam and as I mentioned, over-all passing rate for all foreign-educated nurses is traditionally less than 50%.
Hi rke18
Just do what silver said, and I will try now ro summerize it for you in steps:
1-apply for any enlish proficiency exam, toelf or ielts because english is the link for all other steps.
2-submit all the required items and papers to cgfns as soon as you ans yr school can because from my experience it could take you till more than 4 month to got yr ces report done and they will not issue it to you unless you pass yr english proficiency tha't because you are applying for NJ BON.
3-after your ces done apply for nclex and NJ BON
4-after 1 week from sending yr application to NJ bon YOU WILL be required to do fingerprinting
5-after 2 month from yr fingerprinting you will be eligalbe to sit for nclex if everything ok in yr paper's and security eck.
6-apply for visa screen
During this long period;9 month or maybe alittle more you must study for yr nclex and practicing as much as you can.
If you need any help or any question just re-ask me or any member in this forum.

so glad to hear from someone who is nearing the completion of the application process. :) how many months did it take you receive the fingerprinting process? or have you just passed your application form and is still waiting for the fingerprinting process? im asking this because i have read in the application packet that, "When the board receives the Certification and Authorization form for a criminal background check, you will then receive instructions on the fingerprinting process. You will be eligible to sit for the appropriate NCLEX licensing examination." So, based on my understanding (and someone please correct me if im wrong
), if you already received the fingerprinting instructions, you can already take the NCLEX.
also, can you provide me with a time line of when you completed each step of the application so that i can have an idea re: duration of time that each step takes. in my case, i have applied for CES last Sept 2007, but i still havent completed the required credentials. Then, im planning to take the IELTS by Jan 2008. i hope you could help me.
