Help! Bought an online test bank not sure what to do!

Nursing Students General Students

A student in my class bought an online test bank and shared it with the entire class, well little did we know that when we took our test on Monday that it was exactly the same! Could we get kicked out of nursing school for this????

19 other students had it as well!!

Well the administrators and instructors at my school have become hip to the buying of test banks so they do not use them for our exams. They create their own so they have no issue with student buying test banks. I've purchased a few myself and use them to study since none of my exams come from them.

the instructors at my program did the same thing, but honestly, the questions are STILL so similar that you can definitely tell that there are only so many ways to write the same question. I mean, you can change-up details of the clinical scenario, patient, etc., but the same basic nursing problem/intervention can only be tested/worded in so many ways. I have found that by reading the same test bank chapters from multiple instructor test banks (e.g. perioperative nursing chapter in test bank 1, test bank 2, test bank 3, and so on), you can really get a feel for the different ways a concept can be tested. So I say, "bring it on!" because now the instructors are the ones who are obligated to write creative questions.... and like I said, the same question can only be asked so many ways!

This may seem like a dumb question but I have never thought to buy a test bank. Where do you get it from? I would think it is no different than practice NCLEX questions which I have seen a few pop up on an exam from a free NCLEX website I use.

Did you read this entire thread?

If not you should.

A test bank that is obtained through pirate sites is considered cheating by MOST programs and WILL get you dismissed for academic dishonesty.

Is it different than other resources like for NCLEX? Yes ....if you bought the illegal question answer key for the NCLEX itself online is that cheating?

Hmm I've never heard of test banks either, until now. However, this kind of situation is exactly why I don't study with anyone else. Been burned too many times because of fellow students. I've never cheated on a test and never will. I'm perfectly happy earning my own grade. I would like to hear how it turned out for the OP, though.

But if the faculty at a nursing program say that they're not pulling questions from test banks and they don't care if students use them, is it still cheating?

Yes, because the developers of test banks make their livings from selling them to bona fide educational institutions. If you buy one from someone who stole it, you are stealing from the rightful copyright holder. That is a felony.

That is cheating.

If it wasnt, then why are you afraid of telling your faculty member and in fear of being expelled?

This is a case of plagiarism... plagiarism sticks to your student record for life.

Your only hope now is that no one is a scaredy tattle-tale and snitch on the class. The people who had the testbanks could get in serious trouble. So hope no one tells a faculty.

I am actually looking for the website to purchase test bank as well because i think it is a good source to help my studying. As long as i read the book, get the concepts, and use it as a source to do the practice questions to test my knowledge, i think it is all fine. So, if anyone know where to get the source, please let me know. Thanks much!

The versions legal for students to obtain are called "study guides". Legitimate publisher test banks require verification that the purchaser is a credentialed educator affiliated with a college that purchased the corresponding text book. No student could produce a valid credential. Any other source is selling you illegitimately obtained test banks only used to cheat.

If you haven't, you really need to read this thread. Buying a test bank is the quickest way to get thrown out of nursing school.
