HELP A GUY OUT!!

Nurses New Nurse

Just needed to get your attention! Thank you for looking! I just got my RN license yesterday, Wooo! I've been interviewing everywhere and I got lucky and have the choice of Neuro, Oncology, and Telemetry. As a new grad, where would be the best place to get my experience? I would like to one day work in an ER or ICU, so I was looking at Telemetry because of this, then again, I don't think telemetry sounds all that fun. When the nurse manager for neuro explained her unit, it sounded fascinating and as if there were many interesting cases to see. Then there's oncology which I think would be a great experience as I enjoyed it during my peds rotation. Please provide me with some feedback. Much appreciated.

Choose Tele if your goal is critical/emergency care.

Specializes in Neuro ICU and Med Surg.

I think telemetry is your best choice if you want to go to ER later on. That will give you the most experience you need.

Specializes in ICU.

I vote Telemetry.

Hello everyone, thanks for all your insight! Unfortunately I misunderstood and they said out of those 3 units, one of them would call me if interested. When the hospital called me, they only told me the unit floor number. I decided to to go check out what it was and it was oncology and hematology! Honestly I'm just happy I got my first job a month out of school at an excellent hospital. Although it's not Er or icu, I'm fortunate that it's a field that interest me and that I got the job less than a month out of school. Nurses are known for their versatility so I'm gonna soak up as much as I can and then later branch out. Once again, I appreciate the help. - CSG RN
