I've never really heard much about it, but I have heard that LIU in itself is a good school?? is this true? please tell me what you know about the nursing program. how difficult is it to get into?
I've recently applied to LIU. I work full time and its the only school in the nyc metro area that will allow me to get my BSN part time while working full time. I am a little confused about the negative comments. I plan to enroll for Fall 2011. Does any one have any good news about this school or any positive recent experiences??
I'm currently at LIU taking prerequisite courses. I have not started any nursing classes yet, but am perfectly happy taking prerequisites here. That being said, I too have read all the negative comments about LIU and am trying to keep my options open. I understand that you have to work full time , originally I planned to do the same thing. Have you looked at any of these other schools which I believe offer part-time evening and/or weekend options?
College of New Rochelle - evening plus weekend options
Adelphi University (Manhattan Campus) - evening
Fairleigh Dickinson - evening
Hi Steph,
First of all, thanks for your reply. Adelphi's program is not designed for full-time working adults, I spoke with the program administrator/coordinator and they were very honest with me. As far as New Roch or FD, both are too far from where I live and work ( I live in quees, work in manhattan...
I've applied and submited all of my documents to LIU... just waiting to hear back. HOWEVER, I am keeping my options open because this school is very expensive. I have over $45,000 worth of undergrad loans (I have a BS from another school)- and so I can't afford to put those in deferment and be another $55,000 or so on top of that after the LIU program (3 yrs). I'd like to get a morgage a few years from now and with my fiance's school debt, he is in medical school, it will be too much to handle. I've concluded that if I'm going to keep my job and pursue nursing, my only option is an associates program for now, and then I'd figure out how to get the BSN either online or at another school. There are more schools that offer asscociate in nursing to bsn in nursing than just getting your bsn, that would also work with my schedule... GOOD LUCK TO YOU IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS!!
Hello
I have been admitted into their RN-BSN program for Fall'11 (LIU BK campus). Its been a little stressful in terms of figuring out stuff because at first I received a letter from the college stating I had to take the Hesi A2 exam before starting....but then when I went in person it turns out since I am an RN and am in the RN-BSN program I didn't have to take it at all.
Im transferring from a Cuny college (City-Tech). I had some really painful moments in City Tech including a professor who was a bit of a bully, but thankfully I graduated from there on time.
Im really hoping LIU is better. Ive had to go in person to this college almost a handful of times though.
Will keep you posted!
congrats to you! i got into the school as well, for fall of 2011. im planning om going to LIU day to check the campus out. are u? not fully convinced about this school... its incredibly hard to get anyone on the phone, let alone get a straight answer. i dont even think ill be enrolling. they just seem to want ur money. i guess they can do that when its the only bsn program that doesnt discourage working in the nyc area.
I applied for the summer semester. I called on Monday, 3/14, and the admissions office told me that my decision letter was in the mail, and that I should receive it very soon. It is now Saturday,3/19, and I still have not received the letter. I am getting really nervous, excited...just a mix of emotions. I just want the letter to come so I can know what is going on.
I got a letter today congratulating me on my acceptance, telling me that I need to take a placement test. I am so excited. I just wonder why I received this letter before the actual acceptance letter. But, I have been accepted, so I guess that is all that really matters in the end. YAY!!!
Congrats!
Im not sure, Im def. going to orientation, Id agree in terms of communication with LIU....its pretty poor. Im still not sure what my schedule is going to look like or what options I have to maintain a FT status during every semester till graduation.
Im waiting for a reply, hopefully I get info sooner than later but its frustrating because Ive been there in person about 3-4 times now and I feel like Im still unaware of my options
