It's desolate, but has a rapidly growing population. It's off Interstate 40, so the city would be a quick drive to 'more fun' locales such as Las Vegas, Laughlin, Phoenix, and the Four Corners region.

AZ has deserts and mountains; with lots of interesting places to go see in every direction. It all depends in what you're looking for... Kingman is high desert so it is cold in the winter and dry in the summer.

The Colorado river is only a few miles away; which means water sports and gambling (Laughlin, NV).

Flagstaff is only a short distance away too; at 7000ft it has 4 ft of snow on the ground right now... winter skiing and snow sports are waiting for you! :)

The low deserts are just starting to warm up; due to the amount of rain (and its spacing) I suspect the low desert wildflower bloom will be stupendous this year.

So... is there something specific you are looking to find out?

I have a friend who lives there and I can ask...

Timothy McVeigh lived in Kingman for at least one year, in a trailer, before he decided to blow-up the Murrow Federal Building in Oklahoma City. That about says it all for me...

Kingman is no longer the sleepy little town it used to be. Kingman is located on Highways 93/I-40 connecting Phoenix to Las Vegas is a major transportation component of the CANAMEX Trade Corridor (NAFTA Free Trade Route) and sits right at the heart of 93. Approx 99 miles from Las Vegas and 187 miles from Phoenix. Approx 35 miles to Laughlin, about 2 hours to Flagstaff with picturesque scenery & snow sking, with a little extra drive you will be in Sedona, AZ. Voted the best place to live in the US. Kingman is located within 40 minutes from major lakes, Lake Mead, Lake Havasu, Lake Mohave as well as the Colorado River & Grand Canyon West Skywalk. Kingman is situated 3,300 ft above sea level in the valley and over 8,000 ft elevation in the Hualapai Mountains. Its high desert altitude produces a very consistent climate with mild winters and summers. The air quality is good, clean pollutant free air provides residents with some of the best air quailty in the US. Kingman Regional Medical Center KRMC was rated in the top 100 hospitals nationwide in a survey conducted in 2006. Out of over 3,500 hospitals in the survey, the KRMC placed in the top 3 percentile nationwide. Kingman just announced the approval for a second hospital. Medcath is building a 105 bed acute care hospital, construction expected to start 1st Q 2008. Additional 77 beds to be built later.Kingman is in the middle of hundreds of outdoor recreation opportunities, like water sports, hiking, ATV'ing, fishing, rafting the Colorado river, climbing, and on it goes. Kingman is prject to be one of the fastest growing communities in the Southwest. Although I do not live in Kingman I travel there weekly and can assure you it is worth the visit...it has industry, manufacturing, Distribution & Trade as well as a small airport and 2 major highways north/south & east/west as well as the Burlington Norther & Santa Fe Railroad....take the trip!! Good Luck.Mary

All I know about Kingman is that's where we usually stop for a bathroom break on the way to Laughlin :D

Us too! Nice toilets...good plumbing.

Yeah, the service stations that are there on the way to Las Vegas have really good restaurants (what can I say, we are normally starving once we get there?). I have a friend that moved there for a hot minute, her husband's fam is from there. His fam may be linked to the Tim McVey bunch - strange characters they all are. Just kidding, I have heard that it is a growing area. I cannot see where there is much to do though, but what do I know? I only stop there (very shortly) on the way to Las Vegas. I haven't a clue what the backbone of their economy is there.

Besides fast food...probably cooking meth...

:yeah:

The best bathroom is at the Love's gas station off of I-40. If you have to go sooner, I highly recommend the Wikeup Trading Post......the one with a sign flashing gasoline prices. Cleanest bathrooms anywhere on the way to Vegas.

Actually, I wouldn't mind trading in Phoenix life for Kingman. Less people, less pollution, no overhead low-flying police choppers, and some dang PEACE AND QUITE. If I want excitement Laughlin or Vegas would provide it!

Not any more. There was a raid by 8 different law enforcement agencies making up a group called "MAGNET" and about 15 people were arrested about two weeks ago. The local paper (kingman daily miner) reported that none of them were cooking, all of the meth was moving in from Mexico because nobody can get the over the counter meds necessary to cook meth.

So the cooking is way down.

:wink2:
