Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....
Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)
QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?
I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....
Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????
Wow guys - thanks for all the support. I'm so appreciative of all of you. :)Ok, you students out there, what do you do on break? It was so funny, I am so used to studying all the time that last night, I really didn't know what to do with my time after the kids went to bed. :chuckle
Cheli - that sounds so good - Pagosa Springs is waaaay too far for me to drive through, especially with work & the family. (Sigh) that is a 6 hr. drive from here. Oh well. I would really love to take a trip up to see my friends in good 'ol Summit County (Dillon/Silverthorne/Breckenridge area) where I grew up, but even that is a 4 - 5 hr. drive and I just don't have the time.
Maybe in the summer I will go up - I prefer the mountains in the summer anyway. (A snow bunny I am not!)

I was really good yesterday considering the parties have started . . . There was a huge party at the office and another one at the town board meeting last night - both had tons of "goodies" (AKA: chocolate). I managed to keep myself from gorging and actually only took two spoonfulls of the cake from the office party - the rest of it I attacked the veggie tray - broccoli, carrots, celery - yummy! At the town board party, I was good and avoided all of it - don't ask me how, I couldn't do it again, but I did. :) I am trying sooooo hard not to gain weight this holiday season, hopefully I can keep reminding myself of that every time the christmas cookies come wandering in the door.
Won't be doing much of anything. I have study to do on my break as well. :)
But atleast I don't have to set foot at school.
When I was on break I used to write. But it was what I wanted to do. No APA or any other guidelines or rules.
Sarah: no drive was too far for us to get to a hot spring. At the very least we went to Winter Park once a week. It's 6hrs to Pagosa from Denver too but it's our favorite.
I started my workout program today. I'm gonna go at least 3 times a week. The initial 20 pounds came off just dieting. Now I need to tone up the elasticity (yuck) that's left and continue burning those pounds off.
just stopped by to say hello to everyone! i haven't been posting much on this thread of late because i haven't really adopted any new eating habits worth sharing about. :uhoh21: once i'm back in my own world (own place, financial blessings....), i'll start on my body. i am losing "stress weight" though...just not fast enough. you all keep on keeping on! i'll bounce in here when i can. stay safe! stay encouraged with your goals! :balloons:
Cheli - LOL, you have way more ambition than I do when it comes to the drive . . . I hate to drive! That's ok though - I was appreciating living in the middle of nowhere over the weekend when I got to saddle up my horse and go for a ride without any traffic or interruptions - talk about serene.
Good idea on the writing - I write for fun too, maybe I'll break out the old pen & notepad in my spare time and see what comes out. Thanks! Good luck with the exercising, that is wonderful to get started - I really need to do that myself. BTW - LOVE your avatar!!!
Hey Cheerful, good to see you - I have been MIA off and on myself. Hopefully that will change now.
Hi guys, busy busy, today I start a workshop with re-training for employment and how to choose what's appropriate for me, I have been out of work for over 2 years on disability (mental health issues) and not working is not conducive to mental health EITHER! So I am going to do this 10 week thang (been too chicken to just jump into working again, the anxiety that the anxiety will be so bad they will notice and I will get more anxiety etc... can you say hamster wheel). Wish me luck, pray for me, for courage and perseverence and that I end up doing something FUN. How is that for healthier living
You guys are great, I read much but post seldom, but pray for your (and my!) success with the whole health thing!
xo
sarah....can i join you on one of those horsey rides one day? i love horses. would love to own a few arabian horses. they are like i'm being tamed not to be....wildspirited and strongwilled.
of course you can! :) i have just the horse waiting for you then - not an arab, but big, beautiful, brilliant and bold! she is a 4 yr. old we have trained ourselves and we don't believe in harsh breaking (everything is done gentile and with love - kind of horse-whispery style) so her spirit is still intact. lol - i used to own an arabian, he was waaaaaaay too high-spirited for me. my husband loved him, but i couldn't do much with him - all he ever wanted to do was run and, once he got going, he wasn't likely to stop until he came to something that stopped him :chuckle i like to mosey too much for that type of attitude - the mare i ride most often is a 20 yr. old qh. :rotfl:
jess and zo - don't feel bad, the holidays are hard on everybody. zo - good luck with your new endeavor. i think we should be ok just so long as we all plan on picking up where we left off after the holidays. i gave in yesterday and ate a piece of chocolate-chip cheesecake at work - i felt so bad afterwards, but i guess that's actually positive - at least i felt guilty rather than indulging in 4 or 5 pieces. :chair: i had steamed broccoli and baked chicken-breast for supper - after that darned cheesecake, i thought i'd better find some health food.
