Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

Good plan with the good fats Wonka - plus, I think oils such as olive taste a lot better too! :)
Mary - sorry, I haven't tried any of the herbal supplements or anything like that. I had tried smoking right after highschool, but never caught the habit - I actually got sick of smoking and just went cold turkey. Lucky, I guess because my hubby is a smoker and the habit has a pretty strong hold on him. Poor guy - I know what you are going through with watching him, I think he has given up. Good luck with it - strong will, determination and lots of support should help a little.
You could try this - keep track of how many you smoke each day and then post that number on here. That way we can root you on every time the number is lower and give you encouragement when it is not. Don't know if you want to do that or not, but it might help with some of the emotional aspect of it. Either way - I'm rooting for 'ya!
Hi Guys!
Did not eat well these past few days. Spouse is out of town and I find without someone to cook for, I don't eat as well. I need to stop that. Plus they ordered Chinese food out and I had a big plate of refined carbs and salt. (Otherwise known and veggie lo mein, the large size).
Mary, I quit smoking long before patches and Wellbutrin, 20 years ago. I went cold turkey and immediately took up running. I remember gasping for air those first few runs, but I kept at it. In fact I was a runner for about 13 years before my right knee went bad.
I don't advocate it, but I also allowed myself to feed my craving with whatever kept me from smoking. Despite the running I gained 10 lbs in a week. But soon it came off. I don't advocate dieting and quitting smoking at the same time. But I do advocate a healthier way of eating than I did.
The other thing I did that may have helped was I found a subliminal tape. It was music, but supposedly buried in the music was a quit smoking talk. I heard the mumbling but didn't understand the words. It was all the rage back then, but I haven't heard much about it lately.
I took it one day at a time, prayed a lot and here it is 20 years later.
Good luck.
I can relate Tweety - I was doing pretty good until yesterday. Then I got overly stressed at work and ate half a bag of cookies. Figured I already blew it for the day, so hubby and I went out to eat and had very yummy Mexican food - but very bad for me. Oh well - will try again today. Bought veggies for work, so hopefully that will help!
Good deal Tweety - I bought a jumprope the other day, I love jumping rope, so hopefully that will get me motivated to exercise.
Ok - I got on the scale yesterday morning and had gained 7 lbs. OMG! That's enough of that! I have been really lax here lately - it's been in spurts, but apprently it's added up. Time to really get back on track now. I have done so good since last August, I don't want to get right back into my old habits, so I've got to be better. No sense ruining a good thing and a healthier body.
It truly does. Hopefully we can both get it under control and squash our bad habits before they get too strong a grip on us. Scary thing is, I didn't think I was doing too bad until then and then I stopped and thought about all the times I ate something and said to myself, 'once in a while doesn't hurt'. Well, that's probably true as long as 'once in a while' isn't getting more and more regular all the time. Today I ate a bunch of celery and a little bit of cheese for lunch.
Hey guys... checking back in here. Sorry to hear about the gain Tweety and Sarah, but sounds like you guys are very rational about it and ready to get back on that horse!
Healthier eating has been going somewhat better. FH finally got sick of his weight gain and felt that his body was rebelling against everything he was putting into it, so he wants to up the veggies in the diet. Can't complain about that!
I also bought a couple new workout DVDs from amazon in the past couple weeks on Kundalini yoga. I haven't had a ton of time to devote to them, but I do enjoy them. I'd like to get some more from those instructors so that I can have a variety of workouts (I tend to get bored doing the same routine day-in and day-out) but at $20/each I'm trying to pace myself I really enjoy the spiritual aspect of it. I finished up a 90-minute one yesterday and felt so happy and at peace, which is something I've been struggling with lately. So I hope to keep that going. I also like the fact that it's a gentle workout. Still a workout (I can feel my muscles aching the next day), but it doesn't feel torturous like a lot of exercise does.
Hope you're still enjoying school Sarah! I need to get working on my applications. They're not due until early fall, but I'd like to have them out of my hands by mid-July.
Hi Arciedee - thanks! Glad it is going well for you. :) I did better yesterday - I had a grilled pork-chop with black-eyed peas and cottage cheese for supper - yeay! Today I ate a ton of celery and a couple slices of cheese for lunch, so I am getting back on track. I hate when my clothes start getting tight - you know it is time to do something different!
I am loving school - it is a blast. Last weekend we got to do bedbaths on each other, we cleaned each others hands/nails, shaved a balloon without popping it (LOL!) and did backrubs and brushed each other's teeth. It was fun! I have an awesome lab group though, so they make it good. This weekend we will be doing urinary catheters, enemas and NG tubes - I can't wait!!! Ooooh - I also got the results back from my first test, I was a little bit bummed, but I got a 92% (needed a 93% for an A - go figure), but I found out that the class average was 85% and my study partner had gotten a 79%, so that made me feel better. Whew! I was really scared - first test and all, so if this is a precursor to the class, then maybe I will survive after all. :)
Hope y'all have a great weekend!
Good work Sarah! Thanks for all the quitting smoking tips guys and gals! I don't think I'm up to posting my quota, though. :sofahider I know we've all heard it before, but weight does fluctuate daily. Myself, really go up (5# or so) for a few days after chinese or thai food, and so does the BP. I figure that's due to good old sodium. I'm just lucky that I get a workout during work. www.mypyramid.gov calculates my work as BEE x 2 for every hour of work -- too bad its not aerobic!

Wow, everyone is doing so great!! Congrats! Mary - hard do resist Maryland crabs, huh? I know what you mean
But glad you were able to "walk it off," it's always good to have fun ways to vary up your excercise routine!
I have been trying to focus my eating plan on lowering the amount of saturated fats in my diet, which has been a process indeed! I have been trying to use Olive Oil and Sunflower Oil (the good oils) and limiting trans fats in the process...
And I have been walking a ton, too, which always helps :)
