Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!

Will do Tweety - just tell me when you get sick of hearing about it :chuckle My first actual 'class' is tonight - yeay! :D

Wonka - great job! I have a hard time with the junk food temptations too - yesterday our power was out county-wide and naturally, the house we all congregated at for lunch (all restauraunts were closed and I don't live here in town) only had chips and sandwich stuff, so I had that for lunch. Oh well - didn't eat a ton of it, so I guess it wasn't too bad. Had a protein bar for breakfast this morning :)

I was walking for exercise too, but now I don't have time again. Oh well - I've decided I will park at the far end of the parking lots and that will help some - especially on campus!

Hey everyone... guess I'll join in here. Been absent for a while.

Healthy living is going okay here. Weight somehow got back into a range where I'm more comfortable, so trying to maintain that. Been pretty good about the exercise this week. And just ordered a new yoga DVD a couple days ago. Can't wait to try it.

One thing I'd like to work on is cooking! For some reason it seems that we haven't been preparing many meals at home lately and I'd like to get back into that because otherwise it's way too tempting to order pizza or other unhealthy stuff. But of course that means that I need to make menus, shopping lists, actually DO the shopping. It's frustrating. I really really wish that I lived closer to home... the 2-3 hours spent commuting each day could be put to much better use, such as taking care of our health!

Sarah, so glad that you're enjoying nursing school so far. I cannot wait to get in. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be admitted for January. I've finished up pre-reqs, so now I'm kinda bored.

Anyway, just thought I'd pop in on the not-so-new-anymore thread and say hi!

Thanks Arciedee - good to see you again! Glad weight is going well for you, that is always a struggle. I hope I don't get into bad habits while I'm in school and gain some back - then I'd have to buy different scrubs - yikes! Will try really hard to avoid that! :) I was so happy though - XLs fit me with room to spare - that has not be possible for me for years and years - WooHoo!!! I'm on the right track at least. ;) Hope everybody has a fun weekend - my first lab is on Sunday - yeay!

O.K. Sarah, we'll let you know when we tire of you. LOL Like that is really gonna happen.

Arciedee, it's good to hear from you. Good luck. It's so hard to eat healthy while eating out isn't it?

I'm o.k. I took my BP yesterday and it was 117/75 which is excellent for me. It's running a bit high lately for some reason. I think stress, sleep distrubance, coffee and salt are my culprits and need to get all that under control. sigh..........

Thanks Tweety. :) I had my first lab yesterday - it was bedmaking - it was a blast! Who would have thought I could get so excited over making a bed - lol! We took turns being the person in bed and being the person making the bed around that person. I have a wonderful lab group, so it was so much fun! :D

That's great about your BP tweety - I really should check mine, I haven't checked it for a while. I think stress has a lot to do with it, yours is still pretty decent though. Still doing your yoga classes regularly? I did go for a walk with my little boy after I got home last night - that was nice. :)

Awesome Sarah.

I'm still doing yoga, but I had to skip this Sunday because I slept in. I followed a friend who is an ARNP, as part of my Assessment class, and she works late hours in the ER. It was interesting, but I'm a total day shifter now and don't stay up late.

My diet has been crappy, so I'm recommitting myself to a healthy diet, by starting with six days of 100% healthy foods, and on the 7th day I rest and eat what I want. Hopefully, this will jump start me back into eating well.

I need to cut back on the coffee.

I guess it's good to have goals and to be human. :)

LOL! Definitely Tweety!

I have a similar plan going. I have decided that eating healthy Monday - Saturday works well for me and then I allow myself to eat whatever I want on Sunday, that way I don't feel deprived and end up binging on the bad stuff and going completely off-track. It seems to be working for maintaining my weight, but I suppose I'm going to have to change it around a little bit if I want to lose some more - which I really need to - just need to re-find that will power again. Oh well, I am really happy I haven't gained it back at least, that is a huge step for me!

Lecture tonight - WooHoo!!! :D

Good philosphy Sarah. That works for a lot of people.

Thanks - I hope so! :)

Last night's lecture was about body mechanics and ambulation - sounds like so much fun! I can't wait for my lab this weekend now!!! :D

Hi guys! Great work, Tweety!

Back from vacation! Think I overate a bit.... 12 cups of maryland crab soup in 5 days (!) but it was delicious, along with all you can eat hard shells 3 times! Luckily, Saturday was spent walking around DC, Natural History Museum, Museam of the Native Americans, Lincoln Memorial, Botanical Gardens, etc. I am happy to say I had no net weight gain from my trip!

:lol2:

Arciedee, I found a recipe software, AcuChef, that's pretty good. Has great stock recipes, and you can add-in your own, with nutrient analysis. The other thing that really helps me (and yes, I am a nerd) is a grocery list template I created on the computer. I have it organized with all my basics (milk, paper plates, etc) arranged by location in the grocery store. I just print and cross off stuff I don't need this week. I also have a basic meal plan template that I just fill in; easy choices for breakfast like cereal or a bagel, lunch options like leftovers and sandwiches, dinners are creative. Honestly, 30 minutes Saturday or Sunday planning meals for the week saves me about 4-5 hours of headache during the week. For produce, it helps to hit the store 2x/week, as this will cut out waste d/t spoilage, Saturdays and Tuesday nights for me. The other really great resource for cooking fast is Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals.

Ooooh - Mary, I don't blame you for having enjoyed all of that! Vacations are so important and definitely a time to enjoy! Congrats for maintaining your weight through all of that. ;)

I had a nice relaxing evening last night with my family - just played with the kids and didn't really do much of anything else - it was very nice. :D The group I went to a meeting with yesterday wanted to stop by Sonic on our way back and I was very proud of myself for resisting the icecream temptation (especially since it was 102 degrees) and going for a diet cherry lime-aide instead. Yeay!
