Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. hi zoe,

i hear ya regarding the sugar issue. i once read about and tried a body ecology diet. i loved the results of the lifestyle. though the diet was challenging for me and my family, i will begin again using its principals of slowing down our lifestyle and more consistent meditation or quiet times. i have also noticed that consistent schedules work very well for our family also.

oh well, one day at a time. ((((Hugs)))

Yep, one day at a time. I was good so far today and went to the gym. :)

Keep up the good work Gentle!

Hi Tweety! Sorry I missed ya there...

Went on our ski trip... had a great time and even started skiing the intermediate trails (woot!). But apparently enjoyed the food a bit too much. Came back a couple pounds heavier... grr. Oh well, it seems to have lowered back down with a few days back, even with the holidays. Got a crock pot for Christmas, too! I'm hoping to put it to use once I get back to school, hopefully making some healthy homecooked meals without all the work. We'll see.

The weight was your body's way of providing insulation for the cold weather. Now that you are back, it will come off...

Sound good to you? ;)

That does sound good Zoe!

I'm supposed to go to a Holiday party this evening at the neighbors, for "snacks and dessert". I plan on eating prior so I'm not to hungry. But I can't be rude now can I?

Oh DEFINITELY not rude! Especially that second piece so they REALLY know you liked it! LOL!

One of my co-workers, Mary, is a baker and gives away baked goods for Christmas. She was upset with me that I was off sugar ... so for Chrismas she gave me two mini loaves of cake, one with icing, plus some Hershey kisses ... I graciously accepted ... and to be "polite" I had two very small slices of the one without frosting. I put the rest in the freezer but the next day I threw it all out (I KNOW! What about all those starving people in China!!)

Temptation is everywhere. It's like, out of sight, out of mind (or out of my mind...). Last nite as Mary was about to leave, she told me there was a cake in the fridge for me (!!!) as she walks by with the one for herself. My FAVORITE kind of cake of course ... sigh... I'm absolutely SALIVATING... I knew I'd eat the whole thing if I took it home; thank God I had a supportive friend who helped me out.

My co-worker kept putting so much pressure on me to take it! Why do people do that?? (I know that happens with alcohol too - people pressing them to take a drink). And so, the "to be polite" is not a total joke ... sigh...

Then again - are we meant to obsess about it? I mean, I do, but are we supposed to? lol

So anyway - put on your armor Tweety, I feel your pain ... lol

Good luck Rain. I play the same game. I'd feel too guilty to be paying for something I'm not using which is why I buy my gym membership for 3 years at a time. So if I quit going I'm wasting a lot of money.

:yeahthat:

Of course, not spending money on junk food would probably pay for my membership pretty quickly. . .

Rain, I've heard good things about Curves. Let us know how it goes.

I did go to the gym this morning and got in a four mile run. OK, you guys can be the first to know my secret ambition--I want to run a half-marathon this spring. I haven't really wanted to commit myself, but I think I just did ;)

Ditto on my excuse that I can't afford to eat healthy food! Junk and fast food are pretty expensive!

I have always watched people flying by as they run past and I feel SO ENVIOUS!

Have you ever done marathons before?

Hey Zoe,

I've only done one 5K race--and that was a couple of years ago. Nothing like jumping right in the fire, eh?

I love running, though. My muscles give out after about 7 miles, but I'm hoping I can get them to last 13 at least once ;) I think my heart and head could go on forever, though.

Do you run?

I used to run. Once a week I'd do a long run and made it to 13 miles! However, one of my knees went bad and I had to stop. I was a runner for over 10 years and I still miss those long runs, but you gotta have good knees in nursing.

I did fair at the party. I went to the party full, but had a few dessert. Someone had made a homemade key lime pie with key limes fresh off his tree and it was to die for. :)

Back on track today however. Off to the gym and eating well!

Keep up the good work guys!!

Do you run?

Where is the "rolling on the floor laughing" smiley?

LOL

I walk now and then - that's about it! Definitely need to get on track (so to speak) ...
