Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. A successful day 2! Hauled my butt to Curves at 6 a.m. I am NOT a morning person, so there was a near homicide when one of the other ladies was attempting to chatter in a sing-song voice. Sorely tempted to say something along the lines of 'shut up lady before I sock you one!' and then realized it was just low caffeine talking and zipped it. Good diet day too. Still have dinner to get thru but since there aren't any junk foods in the house right now I should be okay after I get in the door!

Later!

Blue, good luck on SBD, I like that diet a bit better than Adkins, although phase one is a tough oen for me. I enjoy doing crunches at the gym on the ball too.

Hiker, good luck with the running. I put in a good many years of running, and not everyone winds up with bad knees. I think if I would have had the sense to so some gymwork and yoga all along I still might be running, I don't know.

I went to the gym today and worked out but not doing too good with the eating. I stopped by and got takeout Chinese yesterday after a busy 12 hour shift that stretched into 13....you know how it is. A near by place makes the best Singapore noodles.

I hope to have more self-discipline in this area. You guys have to inspire me!

Bluehair, I'm so proud of you! I am doing ok on the no sugar thing but not perfect, and I'm in that slump where sometimes you just throw in the towel and have a binge! Don't know if it is the holidays or what... anyway - you are an inspiration!

Is there any Chinese food that is ok to eat? Is it the sauces that are bad?

I HATE those 13 hr shifts ... sigh... Still, I think you are doing very well Tweety!

Wel, obesity doesn't seem to be a problem to the Chinese does it? My problem with Chinese is not only the fat content from the stir fries, but the refined white noodles (not whole grain), and the high sodium content. That high fat, highly refined, high sodium is what makes it good.:lol2:

Almost every time I go to my favorite Chinese restaurant, staff are sitting together at a big table just MOWing (rhymes with "OW-ing...) down on mass quantities... and none of them are obese. I guess what we would need to do is hang out with them for a few days and see how they cook for THEMSELVES!

I agree that the stuff I like is not exactly conducive to weight loss (chuckle). I also love the crab rangoon - lol

Happy New Year to all... sounds like everyone is off to a good start. I'm not big on making resolutions, but the new year does seem to be a good time to start on the healthier living habits, if for no other reason than it being less hectic and having fewer goodies lying around than the month before! I've found myself craving fruits and veggies lately. Must be a sign.

I ended up having yesterday off for the national day of mourning, so I ran a few errands (picked up my nursing school uniforms!), got the bathtub cleaned (that should count as exercise right there, what a PITA!), got a workout DVD in, and made a relatively healthy dinner (salads and chicken parm but with very little parm and made with the Barilla Plus pasta). I can feel the workout today. I'm hoping to do a yoga DVD tonight. I'm hoping to alternate the yoga and the strength-building DVDs... I should get some more cardio in there, but luckily the yoga DVDs are a little more active than traditional yoga (they're Kundalini yoga) so they get my heart rate up at least a little bit.

Keep up the good work everyone! Here's to a happy and HEALTHY 2007!

Hi guys!

Yes, I also noticed the newer, trimmer Tweety - Is that perhaps visual motivation/inspiration for your healthy living goals?!;)

Another fine day - too damn busy to cheat! The Med Surg floor and us in ICU just kept rotating patients all day - we send them one, they send us one. I think we had a 75% turnover of patients in about a 4 hour window!

Good thing I hit the gym this a.m., 'cuz it wouldn't have happened now!

Mmmmmmm...... Chinese food! (Think Homer Simpson here...)

Everything I love chinese is either carbs (noodles) or deep fried (carbs AND fat, get twice the bang for your buck!). I live in a small town and we do have a couple of chinese restaurants, but they are both mediocre at best. Since no one is at their best every day, you can imagine what the non-peak options are.

Keep up the good work everybody!!!!

Heeeyyyyy! Tweety is now Smarter looking AND thin! :lol2:

Man, keeping up with the exercise part of this committment is proving harder than I would have hoped. Mostly work related. Yesterday was a 14 hour day, today a solid 12. One of those days with no beds, ER screaming, yadda yadda. And we have an administrator who had major surgery as a patient, so trying to play policewoman to boot. Angie Dickinson I'm not.

Hanging in there with the diet, tho!!! 3.4#'s off so far!!!!

Good morning. I'm a bit under the weather.........caught the bug everyone around seems to be getting. I'm not bedridden sick, just sniffles and fatigue.

Skipped my workout yesterday because I was just too tired.

Working this weekend. Hope to be myself soon. :)

WHILE I was working at a fitness club, a co-worker was showing a new member around. Turning to the trainer the woman said, "I don't feel comfortable here. I feel fat, ugly and not properly dressed. Everyone seems to be thin, beautiful and wearing the nicest aerobic outfits." In an attempt to make the unhappy woman feel at home, the fitness trainer replied, "You shouldn't feel that way. Not everyone here is the way you describe. Look at the fat man riding the bicycle over there. He's not well dressed." The woman stared at the trainer and said, "That's my husband."

OUR waistlines were getting larger, so a group of us sedentary executives started a lunch hour workout session. We called ourselves "Middle Management."

MY HUSBAND, an exercise enthusiast who spends an hour and a half at an athletic club every morning before work, encouraged a middle-aged - and quite overweight - friend to join him for his morning sessions. The co-worker decided not to tell his wife about his new project until after he had shed some weight, and he faithfully began meeting my husband at 6 a.m. every day. At the end of the first week, the friend's wife of many years rolled over in bed and offered this parting advice: "I don't know where you're going, dear, or what you're doing. But just remember: You aren't used to it."

Ok, so they aren't the best jokes... but find some of your own for good laugh-a-robics.

I found out yesterday that I need to increase my thyroid medicine. Lithium destroyed my thyroid a few years ago, and NO ONE TOLD ME it would happen when I started the drug. Ticks me off.

I'm on something else instead of the lithium, but anyway - do you suppose that stabilizing my TSH will help more with the weight and energy? That is what I am thinking. I have been doing pretty well with the food and the weight is coming off slowly, and I wondered if that could be part of the reason why [ed. "... why it is taking so long..."].
