Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.
This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
Thanks Arciedee and Jahra - I am marking everything in my favorites so that I can compare them when I have a little more time :chuckle Honestly though, I really do need to get serious about working out and I think yoga would be great for me, especially with all the stress right now. Thanks for all the links! :)
Today I walked to the gym (it's actually opened today- yay!), lifted upper body "push" weights (shoulders, chest, trciceps), and spent 25 minutes on the treadmill.
I'm cooking Italian chicken in my crockpot right now, and it smells heavenly!! It's chicken breasts, garlic, zucchini, green pepper, 1 onion, Italian dressing, s/p, and chicken broth. YUM. Can't wait.

Hey there
I've done both yoga and pilates, and I think that yoga is more mental while Pilates is more about focusing in on your core, positioning, and control. Don't get me wrong- yoga is physical, too! Some of those warrior poses still kill my thighs. But it focuses more on the mind, while Pilates doesn't as much. I like doing both and incorporate both into my fitness regimen.
For relaxation, I'd try yoga first, though. To improve your posture strengthen your core (abs, back, and yeah, your PC muscles, too), try Pilates.

I AM SO IMPRESSED, congratulations on going to the gym! and dinner sounds great!
Hi Tinder! My gym was opened for this AM only.I actually went to the gym and did 40 minutes of aerobics. I well today too. No cookouts and bad eating today. Rats. :)
So much for that "holiday" off from health and wellness Tweety!
Lets face it, you're an angel !
Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:balloons:
I think working holidays is the trick! hehe
It was like any other day for me...got up, went mtn biking for about 45 minutes...puttered around the house and went to work. No BBQs or bad stuff (ok, I did have a drumstick ice cream cone since one of the nurses brought in a mega box of them). Overall, it was not that much different than "any other day".
Way to go Tweety on getting to the gym!
Great job Tweety on your avoidance of 'slugging'!
I think that's a good plan rn2be - I used to enjoy working the holidays. Since I have a government job, holidays are off for me. It will take some getting used to again when I am a nurse. :)
Hi Tinder! Thanks for the info. I am leaning more towards yoga with all the other posts as well - now I just need to get motivated to purchase a tape and actually get started with it.
Hi Zoe & Jahra & everybody - hope everyone had a nice 4th!
I was pretty good - we ate a huge salad and some fresh squash out of the garden before the town picnic last night, so that way I didn't have complete junk food. Then I filled most of my plate over there with another salad and had a little potato salad, some type of interesting casserole, and (of course) a dish of homemade ice cream. I also got into all the games the kids were playing, so I certainly got my exercise in! I found out I am horrible at catching marshmallows in my mouth when someone else is throwing them at me though - LOL - at least it's less calories when you don't catch them.
Oooh - yummy, grilled cheese! Let's see - I am working half a day today and then off to the campus to study for a test tonight. I brought an apple and a yogurt with me for at work. Now, if I can just keep that momentum going tonight, I will be ok. :) One thing I've found very helpful is to leave all my $$$ in the car when I'm on campus, that way I'm not tempted by the junk-filled vending machines. Seems to work great!
It is raining here - WooHoo!!!! We have been in a drought for so long and in the past few days I think we may have cleared about 2 inches of rain, so we are very excited - it's wonderful! If it keeps it up, it may even start looking green again - I sure hope so, this is a pretty area when it is all green. :)
Have a good day everybody!

Hi Sarah,
Here's a beginning yoga dvd that I understand is very good.
I'm planning on getting it-Cape Cod Yoga
Its available at Amazon. I live fairly close to the Cape, so I'll pick
it up next time I'm in Hyannis. I've seen lots of good reviews on
it, it would be a good starting point.

Addendum- Thanks Arciedee for sharing your experience and
the link- it looks terrific too!
