Healthier Living Support - Part III

Published

Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!

No problem listening, Tweety - I love to hear about everyone else's experiences. I think it helps motivate and excite me (plus misery loves company and I think we're all stretched pretty thin with class(es) and work and life).

Also, you're right - one day won't kill you (I took a hiatus on Saturday - I feel guilty but it was worth it to spend some time with friends).

I am about to scoot out for a run - I think we're expected to get scattered showers today so I guess I better stick kinda close to home in case we get a thunderstorm. Have a great day, all.

:)

Oh Tweety, don't worry, you give me hope that I can get to your level. :) Please feel free to gripe, whine, complain, etc. about classes because I'm sure I will be doing that myself here as time goes on. :p

LOL - you guys, I am glad you are at least exercising, I am having such trouble with that. I don't have the time to even begin trying to incorporating exercise into my routine, let alone the energy at the end of the day. I have been parking at the far end of parking lots to get in some extra steps, but that's about the extent of mine at the moment. I hope as I get used to my schedule I can add that in, but right now it is not even on my list of priorities. Oh well, it's got to get better, right?

Gosh I was depressed yesterday - all the stress finally got to me. I had no idea how depressed I was until my friends came into my office with a big bunch of balloons to help 'cheer me up'. Yikes! That's bad. Don't know what I'd do without my friends. :)

I didn't do a single ounce of studying yesterday, in fact, I went to bed rediculously early and I'm so glad because I feel human again today. Yeay!

Thanks. :) They are wonderful, they make me smile and they encourage me when I am down (even though I work with them and they are sad to know that one day I will be leaving them). :balloons:

Good friends, ballons and a good nights sleep. Nothing like it.

I did yoga class today and he admitted he tried to kick our butts. Whew! I'm in such a good space afterwards. I wish I could do this kind of yoga daily.

That's awesome Tweety - I so wish they did some type of exercise classes out here. I would probably do better if I was at a place where people expected me to show up (although I don't know where I would schedule it). :p

Hi Tweety,

What style yoga do you do? There are so many different types,

I'm not sure what style to take. I need something calming, with

stretches and no outrageous pretzel shapes. :uhoh3: It would be

for cross training for dance.

So far on dvd, I enjoy the Wai Lana series.

Just signed up for a seminar to teach Zumba, hopefully will

keep the cardiologist away! :pumpiron: At the very least, I'll be able

to out dance him.

There isn't a particular style I think this guy uses, just whatever he's in the mood for. I think he uses poses from Ashtanga, Hatha, and Power Yoga. Depending on the mood he's in. Usually he targets something like "today it's hips", or "today it's backbends", but also usually covers the all the major muscles for strength and flexibility It's done in a heated room modeled after Bikhram Yoga.

I buy a 20 class packet for $140.00 and have six months to take them or loose them. It's nice because that way I'm obligated to not loose my money.

It's nice to have a class because with yoga you could be doing some subtle things wrong. People have a tendancy to make adjustments in themselves to get to what they think is the best expression, like "oh look at me I can tough my toes" when in reality their back is not straight or in alignment, or there's a subtle twist they are getting wrong.

Exactly Tweety! I think a class would be awesome! Well, I am glad at least you guys have access to that as I certainly do not. :( Oh well - on a good note, I was very good yesterday and ate healthy - despite my almost disaster when I stopped to get gas and a giant sack of gummy-bears was peering at me from behind a shelf. I picked it up, put it down, picked it up, put it down and then quickly went and paid for my gas and left. I'm sure the store clerk thought I was insane - LOL! Oh well - I was very happy I was able to avoid the temptation because goodness knows, if I would have bought that back, I would have eaten every one of those stupid bears on the way to class. :p

We had so much fun in class last night, we learned to take pulse, resps and BP - WooHoo!!!! It was a blast and I think I might actually get the hang of it too! I go to the health nurse today to get my MMR and I am going to bug her to see if she has an extra BP cuff running around there I can borrow to practice with. We shall see. Vitals will be our first check-off (in 2 weeks), so I want to make sure I know what I am doing. :)
