Sarah - the course you are taking right now sounds very similar to what I'm starting the 2nd week in July. I'm glad you are having fun with it - you continue to motivate me! I can't wait to start.

I went mountain biking yesterday - first time out this summer because my work schedule is exactly opposite of my bf and I won't bike alone (the whole girl alone in the woods thing). It was great...I did have to walk/run the bike up the very tippy top of 3 of the more steep hills but overall I'm happy with how I did for my first time out since last year. We rode for 45 minutes and we didn't take any breaks. I'm not sore today so that makes me even happier!

Have a great day all. :)

cheers!

There isn't a particular style I think this guy uses, just whatever he's in the mood for. I think he uses poses from Ashtanga, Hatha, and Power Yoga. Depending on the mood he's in. Usually he targets something like "today it's hips", or "today it's backbends", but also usually covers the all the major muscles for strength and flexibility It's done in a heated room modeled after Bikhram Yoga.

Thanks Tweety. Sounds like an interesting class. I'll check around in

my area to see what is available for classes. You are right about having

an instructor in yoga to check your postures and alignment.

Its the same for pilates-there are subtle adjustments which you

can not see on the dvds.

We had torrential rains here in the Northeast again last night,

so todays workout is cleaning up the flooded cellar yet again:madface:

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Just to reply about yoga styles: I recently picked up some Kundalini yoga DVDs and have been practicing those the past few weeks. It doesn't seem to be as common a style as Ashtanga, Hatha, etc., but I really enjoy it. It's a good mind/body workout (there's a lot of focus on meditation, which I've found quite helpful).

I'll add that style to my list to check out.

Thanks so much for the reply!

Americans to focus more on the physical. I've heard of Kundalini, and no it to be more than just physical, but have never done it. It's not very big around here.

rn2be, I am glad what I am doing motivates you. I am loving it so much - I figured I would, but this is even more than I had imagined! I just hope I can survive it, if I can make it on determination, I can get through, that's for sure! :)

Everybody, sounds like there's a ton I don't know about yoga, I'm thinking of maybe getting a video-tape to give it a try. I don't know when I'd be able to do it, but maybe it would help me to relax, so I suppose it's worth a shot. Does anybody know how yoga compares with pilates? I have thought about that too, but don't know which would benefit me more. Either way, I think I simply have to get motivated!

Have a great weekend!!!

Sarah yoga is ancient and is more about stretching and holding poses.

Pilates is more exercise. I've never done it so can't compare.

If you want to de-stress and relax you might check out some DVD specific to relaxation: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/104-9273226-2169544?url=index%3Ddvd&search-type=quick-search&field-keywords=yoga+for+relaxation

Zoe, we in America are always finding excuses to eat. However, if invited somewhere, I surely won't diet, although I would stick to vegetarian food.

I worked out with 40 minutes of aerobics and weight lifted today. Going out for Thai food today and seeing Superman. I need to socialize and have some fun.

Hi Sarah,

I have used both yoga and pilates over the years. For yoga, I have

used the Wai Lana series. I would like to learn more about the different

styles of yoga. At some point would like to try a class.

Pilates is wonderful, but consistancy is the key. It really develops a

strong core for you if you go through the exercise series at

least three times per week. I favor the Stott pilates dvds, the

instructions are very clear. One suggestion is to try to take a

series of mat classes from a certified instructor. The instructor

will be able to correct your form, and suggest adjustments if you

have any physical concerns.

Here is a link for you about the difference between yoga and pilates--

Thanks Tweety and Jahra - I'm going to check out those links! :)

I did a whole bunch of stair running yesterday - but it wasn't on purpose - LOL - our stupid basement flooded while attempting to install a dishwasher - why do we always choose to do these things on Sunday when nothing is open? :chuckle

Zoe - hahahaha - ummm - didn't I read somewhere that calories consumed on the 4th don't count? :D

Everybody have a happy and safe 4th of July!!!

Sarah,

I recently picked up this beginners' DVD:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BRM992/qid=1151934329/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/103-9015994-2143049?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130

It gives a pretty good instruction on breathing and meditation and stuff like that. And they're good about chaptering their DVDs so you don't have to do the whole thing at once if you don't have time.

I have a few DVDs by this couple and one thing I really enjoy is that even though I don't feel wiped at the end of the workout the next day I can definitely feel it in my muscles. I did the one above on Saturday and I'm still feeling my abs today!
