I start nursing school in April and i just recently received my orientation paperwork. One of the items on the list to bring with me is my health insurance card. I work at a part time job and once i start school I am no longer eligible for my companies health benefits. I will not be working as much when i start school so paying for my own insurance will be too expensive. I do not know what to do.................

Im in a similar situation. I work part time so I dont have insurance but after a lot of searching i found that state farm has a health insurance plan that is only 25 dollars a month, but you do have to pay six months in advance. If you want to pay monthly it would be 89 dollars. So what i suggest is pay the six months in advance. check into it. hope this helps. good luck with school
Hey Thank you so much. I will look in to that. :)

That's totally the problem that I'm going to have.
I was freaking out myself. I just got accepted into the RN program that starts this summer. Im really not sure why you need insurance for school anyway its not like it would be their responsibility to pay your medical bills if you get sick. But hey whatever it takes to get out of this program, Im gonna do it.
Yea i really dont understand why it is a requirement to go to school? Goodluck in the RN program!

O M G I totally hope this doesn't happen to me! There is no way I could afford to buy health insurance. I have never heard of my school requiring and I really hope not. The school where I got my Bachelor's did require us to have health insurance but they had a school plan that ran $300 a semester.

In the middle of nursing school, this became a requirement in my program. They said some of the clinical sites were requiring it. Makes sense...if something happens, you are less likely to try to claim something on a clinical site if you have your own coverage.
However, it was a problem for some of us because our school did not offer insurance, and it's hard to get coverage in my state if you have a pre-existing condition.
My university required it because they said it would cut back on missed days for sickness. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

depending on your income, you can check medicaid eligibility ... if that's an option for you

Univ. of Maryland is the same, they require either you to have your own or theirs. Theirs is $1162/6 mos. One of the reasons is, yes, clinicals. Another, is things like accidental sticks where you need to be seen immediately.
