Head to Toe Red Scrubs

Published

A coworker admonished another coworker the other day for wearing head to toe red scrubs, solid print. She said not only could it elevate someone's heart rate, it looked kind of sensual. Is this ridiculous? We don't have a dress code that features color restrictions. The only thing frowned upon is cartoon characters. I've heard looking at red can raise your pulse (and looking at blue can "calm" you) but this isn't a cardiac unit.

I know a nurse who does this everyday. He has long red hair too lol

Gotta watch out for that red hair! Lol!

Of all stupid things to criticize....

Just had a thought....I don't even have red scrubs but now I might go buy some. They'd certainly be handy for those heavy flow days when I can't quite get to the bathroom quick enough.....maybe that's why she wears them. :p

I think I'll order a set of them next paycheck. *handsup*

Really? I have never heard of anything so silly.

Sadly, I have sillier stories! A DNS wrote me up once for wearing mismatched crocs. I was getting dressed too fast. 😩

My father could not stand the color red, would go ballistic, my mother knew not to wear red. Apparently, somewhere along the line he got too tied up with the "Lady in Red" syndrome. Too bad he is no longer with us so I could discuss this with him.

Wow! My dad too.

Lmao! You know, they might.. This is the Bay Area *snickers*

I have heard various alternative healing practitioners discuss the meaning of red in similar terms as you described in your op. If the nurse has an interest in color therapy, they may not have been admonishing the coworker but declaring the effect that the color red is believed to have.

Or maybe it is like it seemed in your op, that they have a strong aversion to the color red and imposed it on the coworker.

@adele, does the nurse who admonished the coworker have an interest in color therapy and chakras?

Nah, red scrubs clearly mark a follower of R'hllor.

:p

What? I'd probably go out and buy a red top and bottoms to wear frequently just to irritate your coworker....

At my local hospital the nurses wear all red scrubs. It's required. Pretty sure your coworker needed to find something to complain about. I would wear red scrubs every day if it were me. Lol.

but I'm mean like that!! :cheeky:

I never heard about the red causing elevated heart rates. I have heard dementia patients can't see white or black and you look like a floating head lol. We were told to wear brighter colors with dementia patients. I got more compliments from my patients wearing purple or pink then any other color.

The nurses of USC wear cardinal scrubs every day. All 1200 of them. (I don't know these people, this photo was from another AN post).

This makes it seem incredibly mean that our phlebotomists wear all black.
