HCC LPN to RN Transition

Hello. I am finishing up my pre reqs at Hillsborough Community College for their LPN-RN transition program. Has anyone done this transition there? I am mostly curious about the wait list and how many students they take compared to the number of applicants. I called the nursing department and they told me that the transition is less competitive to get into. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I went to put in my application today and was told by the counselor that it's just as competitive as the regular program. In her words, the "rejects" from the generic program take up all the seats in the transition program so the cut-off GPA is still just as high as the regular program. I have a 3.5 and she told me I had no chance of getting in.

Oh no! I was just in there talking to an advisor about a month ago and they said last year the lowest GPA they let in the transition program was 2.8. Sounds like the advisor I spoke with didn't know what they were talking about. Did they give you any insight to what the range of GPAs they are accepting? Any info you can give me will be appreciated

they haven't had a transition program in the past 2 yr. People were told they didn't have enough students applying. Had to look elsewhere.

She didn't give me any information what so ever, other than that anything under a 3.9 is an idiot and will never be a nurse. It's a good thing she didn't tell me her name because I would have reported her for her horrible attitude and rudeness. No professionalism at all. Keep in mind this wasn't a health science advisor or anyone tied to the nursing department at all.

I am sorry she spoke to you like that, some people are just plain nasty and I hope she didn't discourage you.

I am an LPN student and one of the new nurses at the hospital just graduated from HCC and said someone in her class was admitted into the program with a 3.4. And that was the generic program, not the transition. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting it, that person you talked to was just a miserable dog. Did you already get everything sent it? I would like to keep in touch because I plan on going to same route as you and would like to hear your opinion of the admission process and school?

I submitted all my paperwork on the 12th, and received back my SASE and my app fee has cleared. So now just the waiting process. I have no idea when they will let us know, the traditional program applicants were being told April.

Keep me updated! good luck, I really think you have a great chance of being accepted. 3.5 is a good GPA and plus almost EVERYONE I spoke with said the transition is not as competitive as the generic. I really hope you get in!

My friend's mom is an RN at UCH and she spoke to one the nursing instructors who was there for clinicals the other day. The nursing instructor told her that as long as the pre-reqs are in by the deadline and you have at least a 2.0, then you're in, because "the program is not as competitive." She also said that the counselor I spoke with has no say and no business saying anything like what she said to me because it's not her call. So i feel better, but obviously I won't be able to relax until I know for sure.

That is so good to hear. Do you have any idea on when they will let you know if you are accepted?

I haven't heard anything yet, i spoke with an advisor who has been there many years a few weeks ago and she said my GPA is competitive for the transition, that they had 2.9-3.0 for last year's class, and that I'm "in better shape than most of the students she's talked to." Also, she forsees letters going out by April at the latest.

I am not sure if you have heard back about your acceptance to the program yet. But if this means anything to you, I called Dale Mabry campus nursing department today and spoke with them and they said last years lowest GPA for the transition program was 2.9. I think your 3.5 will be more than enough to get you in! I am looking forward to you posting your acceptance!
