Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL
Thanks!
My friend who went to the orientation earlier in the summer said we also have to purchase the Taylors Clinical Skills plus a set of DVD's... I am not going to purchase anything until we talk to them tomorrow.
I have been running around all freakin day trying to get my childhood shot records. WELL i have everything except for the Varicella... AND come to find out... this is a series that takes 30 days to complete. UGHHHH I think I will be fine though... I hope so!!!

You know what, I'm in a similar situation. I've just got back from having TDAP, MMR and a titer for Varicella. Turns out, MMR is 2 shots (I didn't realize you need another course after 10 years) and so I've got another shot on Sep 16.
I managed to catch Ms Grant on her way out the door at Coleman and she said to confirm with Ms Wooten who is taking the orientation tomorrow. There's a chance they'll let it slide since we start at the hospital the first week of Oct.
I'm having TB tomorrow and read on Friday.
I'm mildly freaked out. :chuckle
If you have had the chicken pox you can get your parents to write a letter stating that you were already exposed if you don't have the vaccine.
COOL!!! Is what they told you at the orientation?? I really hope so bc my mom is certian I had it when i was around 4 years old... I hope that is the case. I have proof of everything else.
I think if we have to buy those DVDs I would go in half-and-half with a friend to save money. The DVDs are $100! You can always exchange DVDs or have a viewing party LOL.
Anyway, my ultimate goal was to have the text and as many of the materials as possible so that I could go ahead and start reading as soon as I know what we're going to be working on the first weeks of class.
At this point, I'll just hold off on buying what's not on the list of "required" items until I know what else needs to be purchased. It could very well be that the videos are simply recommended.
See everyone at orientation tomorrow. Don't hesitate to say hi if you see me:
RNbound, I also didn't have the varicella shot but I had the diease when I was 14 and my mom faxed a letter to me from NY that I had it then and it was fine. So don't worry.
Have fun today guys @ orientation!
Now that school starts soon and with you guys getting ready with all your stuff, the phrase "I have no life I'm a nursing student" begins!!
So how did everyone enjoy our nursing DISorientation? Was anyone lucky enough to get forced into the evening classes? I was already intending to go for the evening classes, but there seemed to be quite a few people that were unhappy with whole process.....can't say that I blame them. I think the day would have gone much smoother if we didn't have to sit through the Academic Success Center and Student Services portions of the day. I kind of thought they were annoying and unnecessary. We've all gotten this far, which would indicate we've already attained a certain degree of academic discipline. I really don't think I need someone teaching me how to study via powerpoint presentation.

Trina, I see what you are saying.
The package that is in my sample shopping cart COMES with the skills checklists:
"Fundamentals of Nursing: The Art
and Science of Nursing Care,
Sixth Edition: Text, Study Guide,
and Skill Checklists , Package"
If you read the description of each item, it tells you exactly what is included.
