HCA Grow Your Own ADN program

U.S.A. Texas

Hello! I wanted to know if there is anyone out there going through EL Centro/ HCA's grow your own ADN program. I currently work for HCA and I finish my pre-req's next semester:w00t:. I wanted to know if the program is worth signing my first 2-3 working years to HCA.

well, i work at Medical Center of Arlington, i do not know if the programs are the same across all the HCA facilities. Also, as far as I know, MCA only takes people in the spring semesters. Their requirements to apply are the same as the school's. You have to submit two apps. One to the hospital to even be considered, and then one to the school for them to consider you in a seperate pool than everyone else.

As far as experinces, i dont have anything to share yet, as i will be starting in January 09. I'll add some when i get them. Good Luck with your progress.

What is HCA and what is this program all about? Never heard of it, but that's not saying much.

The program is an ADN granting program through an affiliated school and hospital. I now Lewisville Medical Center is affiliated with El Centro College. A student wishing to start the program has to complete all the pre-reqs required by El Centro College, take the entrance test, and fill out two applications, one for El Centro and one for Lewisville Medical Center, and to be accepted the applicant has to work at that HCA facility. I'm not sure about the student schedule once they are accepted but I know your school is completely paid for by HCA. I believe you have to make a 2 year commitment to the hospital after you graduate. I was told that Lewisville Medical Center is trying to accept new students every fall and spring, but I'm not sure if they have started that.

The HCA program in Las Colinas (LCMC) and Lewisville (LMC) must be different than MCA's because we currently only have classes starting in the Fall semesters. They just successfuly graduated their 1st semester (1st year) students at 100% pass rate! That's encouraging and shows how committed the teachers are at LMC toward their students. :yeah:I'm excited about getting into the program and am just waiting on my acceptance letter and to schedule my interview (June:()

It is the same basic program, but specifics such as schedules will vary across facilities. The Division office is working with the schools and individual hospitals to make this program a success. Availability of classes (Fall start vs Fall AND Spring start) can depend on number of potential students, classroom/clinical space availability, and ability of the hospital to provide dedicated instructor(s).

So i have heard a little about this, but how do you get started? I heard something that you have to work at the hospital BEFORE you can be accepted? Can someone please give me more information, i live in lewisville and this would be sooo perfect for me. Thanks :redpinkhe

Hey,

I currently work for LMC and have applied to the GYO thru them as well. I am currently waiting on my letter to come some time this week to be able to start in the Fall. Has anyone heard anything or is anyone else trying to get in this coming semester?

Hey did you HCA hospital go off of a point system to pick their students if so what was your points and your GPA?

HELLO I was just wondering if you have applied and got accepted into the HCA program at MCL. If so what was your GPA and you overall tottal points and hesi score.I am plannignon applying and i really want to know where i am as fars as the selection process.

Hello have you started you nursing classes at HCA and if so what was your GPA, hesi score and overall point total. i am planning on applying and would like to know please. thanks

Hello,

Yes I applied and was accepted and we are almost done with this first semester. As far as the criteria, they go by the Exact Criteria that El Centro goes by. As a matter of fact, you fill out the same application as El Centro and then HCA sends it to them for them to score it. My Gpa was 3.0 and my over all Hesi score was 89. I got A's on every part except the Math. I dont remember how many over all points I had. They never let me know.

Once you have all your pre-req's and support classes completed and you have turned everything in, you will be called back for an interview with the panel of Nurses and some other people at your facility and then they will make the decision a few weeks after that.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask. What facility are you at? Good luck.
