I am excited about getting my "accessories" together. I have started buying some things:-
-Penlight
-White Shoes (leather) bought 2 pairs, might buy one more...
-Ordering my Stethoscope and Sphygomomanometer ( still shopping around, not sure which one to get) Any ideas?
-Got my Vaccinations together, need to schedule a complete Physical, once I get a list of all requirements.
Would like to know what you all got!
I haven't had my orientation just yet but I have been talking to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students and been able to get a good list together.
My mother is an RN (She is a Nurse Manager for UCDMC now) and so she gave me her Stethoscope and Sphymomanometer.
I haven't been out and about looking for scrub pants (white) and a white Polo. I have a feeling they will be easy to come by. I really want to get a good pair of shoes though. I will keep my eye out for those. Since I don't start until Aug23rd, I am sure I have time to get those things together. I really want to spend my time doing pre-reading.
we had to get our scrubs from doveapparel.com--the top alone was 45$
My school too. I don't know why (unless the school gets kick-backs from the company) because you can buy good scrubs for so much cheaper. Every nurse that I've talked to swears by the Dickies scrubs and you can get the WHOLE SET for $45.00!
we had to get our scrubs from doveapparel.com--the top alone was 45$ --plus we get it engravedwomen must wear stockins even if theyre buying the pants. Sometimes the hospital will make us [students] wear these dresses
That is where our school wants us to get them from too. The vest alone is $47!
Luckily I can get the pants and polo somewhere else, I found a great pair that has a flat front and drawstring for $15.00!
finally had orientation today........15 books we have to buy.....15!!! plus 1 optional one! not to mention the scrubs (have to be from the school), new shoes since i have to have white ones, some sort of kit that we will get when classes start. luckily i already have my stethoscope. all this stuff is going to break my bank but i don't care because i'm in nursing school!!! lol :monkeydance:

yeap!!! thats what i said, one plus is our books are going to be the books we use for the whole program. not one semester, and your uniform you can always wear after schools over.

i will definitely wear the bottoms after school is over but our tops are embroidered with our school name.
anyone else have to get plain white shoes? what did you buy??
I finally got my info packet but nothing was in there about shoes. :icon_roll I have plain white Birkenstocks already, the style is called Baltimore. I found them on ebay for a song a few months ago but they are so comfy I'd have gladly paid full price for them! Lots of the ppl I work with (surgical floor) wear Danskos with the closed back.

I enjoy seeing people so excited about nursing school and gathering all of their new supplies. As many years as I have been a nurse, it is funny, but when I get down, a new stethoscope, pair of scrubs, pin, pen, gadget or book always fix me right up.
Press on folks...press on...
Beary wishes you all the very best that nursing has to offer!
