there is a school in atlanta, ga that is putting out "basic care nurses" they advertise that they get all the skills of lpn in six months, with no core classes, no nclex, no regulation at all and all for the price of $6,600 ruffly. oh and guess what is it is taught by "docs".
this makes me mad!!!!!!!:angryfire who do they think they are?:stone i am working hard for my lpn, not to mention the stressing over it:sniff: , these people are not doing any of that and are calling themselfs nurses!!!!

If my sketchy memory serves me correctly, back in the late '70s or early '80s there was some type of program in the works, initiated/owned/operated, whatever, by MDs that was supposed to train people to perform bedside nursing care. It was medical, as opposed to nursing, in orientation, and was supposed to grind out "healthcare technicians" in less than a year, and for dirt cheap. :angryfire Fortunately, several instructors from my alma mater lobbied vigorously against it (thank you, Nancy, Hazel et al
) and it never came to fruition.
Hopefully, the B.O.N. has been made aware of this by now, and it will die a rapid, quiet death.
i stopped smoking over ten years ago. i have not looked at a matchbook cover in years. now i know what they are printing on the covers.:chucklethere is a school in atlanta, ga that is putting out "basic care nurses" they advertise that they get all the skills of lpn in six months, with no core classes, no nclex, no regulation at all and all for the price of $6,600 ruffly.oh and guess what is it is taught by "docs".

Nursing skills? Taught by physicians, most of whom have no clue about bedside or nursing anyway? I pity the folks who blew their money on what sounds like a slightly enhanced CNA course, and think that they're the equivalent of an LPN. Sounds like alot of drs themselves need to take this class before they practice.
To me, this sounds like a glorified nursing assistant. If they are trained to be the eyes and ears of RN's then they can't be called "nurses" can they?:angryfire
I'm not going to trust the eyes and ears of anyone without LPN or RN after their name, and maybe not even then! I'm not staking my license on someone who's barely an aide. I have coworkers, RNs, who I might trust to be my eyes and ears, and others I wouldn't let care for my plants.
here in ct. only a rn can teach nursing of any form (lpn rn)not a physician....it's a different area of occupation..there is a school in atlanta, ga that is putting out "basic care nurses" they advertise that they get all the skills of lpn in six months, with no core classes, no nclex, no regulation at all and all for the price of $6,600 ruffly.oh and guess what is it is taught by "docs".

Do we just write a letter to the board of nursing in GA?? I agree I think that we should all unite and do something about this. I have gone through a lot of tears and money so far to get an RN degree. I don't think that it is fair or ethical to have a person with a 10th grade education taking care of people.
