i hate pediatrics? =(

I hate pediatrics, It's the professor that makes me hate it, she's a real nice lady and all, but she's just all over the place like she'll go over something for 3 or 4 classes, and only 5 questions will be on that on a test, and then she'll go over something for 5 minutes, and then you'll get 30 questions on that. I'm actually scared of failing the lecture because this has been the closest to failing a class I've ever been since i started nursing school, and I'm scared. Has anyone else struggled in pediatrics keeping up with the disease processes and all? Because I feel like I have the lowest grade in the class right now, which suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. =(

My pediatrics instructor was kind of a flake, too. She was a certified nurse midwife, and obviously favored the OB side of the class (our program combined OB and peds), so we learned very little of actual, useful information about pediatrics, and the exam questions on pediatrics were worded extremely vaguely or were just generally bad questions. I picked up a guide to pediatric nursing from Barne's & Noble, and that helped clarify a few things for me. Hope that helps

me too. not because of my instructor but i just simply not fond of attending to pediatric patients. i am having hard time in taking the vital signs of my pedia patients and most of them cry when me and my classmates started to enter their rooms as if we are monsters.

same here... i can just remember I had this patient, we were on team nursing. Once the team enters the room, the child just screams and resists, it took us 10 minutes to take the blood pressure despite the attempt to be nice, show toys, etc..

I was so lucky, my first peds rotation was in a middle school. I took temps, passed out meds, and peppermints, did vision and hearing screenings. I subbed for middle school off and on the last 15-20 years so I was in my element. I hated the lectures though. I got a strong B on the test, so now only 3 weeks left of the first OB and then off to med surg. The thing is to just get through it if it's something you hate. It's a part of the learning to be a nurse plus you never know what might come up that might be interesting, I had finished with my OB patient(she hadn't been to able to sleep for 1 1/2 days and finally fell asleep) and we had a woman with a hg of 4.8 come in so I got to watch and help out my nurse with her as she hung her blood transfusion.
