Has anyone taken Micro and Physio together?

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and found it to be a very informative place. I was just wondering if anyone has taken or is taking Microbiology and Physiology in the same semester(quarter). I plan to take both next semester, but the head of Biology was trying to talk me out it. She said that people do not do well when they take both classes together and that I really should re-consider. These are my last two classes before applying to the nursing program and I really want to get them over with. Any opionions???? Right now I have Anatomy, Chemistry, and Sociology and I am doing fine.

Thanks,

Amber

I was a biology major before I turned to nursing. Both classes require a lot of memorization no matter what level. Still, I have taken four upper division biology classes together and have had all A's (I work well under pressure:chuckle ). It depends if you are willing to put the time into the reading and memorizing. If these are your only two classes then go for it; you've gotten this far! Anatomy will help soften the physiology because some is repetitive and familiar. If that doesn't sound appealing, you can always take what we call a winter intercession class (cram it in in 6 weeks before the spring semester begins) or as a summer class. The school should still let you go through commencement with one class pending; they let me with three classes pending.

These are only suggestions. Best to you!:p

It's definately doable. This past summer I took ant/phy and micro all in one summer. I did fine. Just make sure you have enough time to study. And that you set aside atleast an hour a day to study or more. Phys i found alittle easier then ant. just cause it was more understanding then memorization. Micro was aight. I didnt really like the material but my teacher was really good. Anyway if you think you can do it then go for it..It will be a huge relief after your done with them...I know it was a huge weight of my shoulders...lol

I did it as well - A&P, Micro, an english lit and stats....

Yup...Im nuts - I didnt make A's in all of them , I made B's in the sci courses and A's in the two others, but I didn't need a 4.0 back then to get into nursing school either.

I did it. I was advised against it but I didn't want to have either class while in nursing school. I am glad I did. I started my first semester in the nursing program this fall. I got an A in boy phys and micro. I don't regret it. Just make sure you have plenty of time for study since both courses are memory intensive.

I took both Micro & Physio together. I passed both successfully....while there is quite a bit of memorization & a ton of studying, I found that alot of similar information was addressed in both classes (ie: immune system, metabolism, etc). I was like you - I wanted to get it done at once to save myself 6 months of more pre-reqs!

It is alot of hard work, but IS achievable. Good luck with your final pre-reqs!

I am currently doing it. Actually I am finished with the Micro (A) and almost done with the physio. I think my saving grace was that the micro was an on-line course and I could go at my own pace (faster or slower) and fit it in around physio. I am also taking Pysch 201. It is doable - if you are willing to put forth the effort :) Good luck to you!!

May I ask how you can do micro online? Did you have to go to a lab or what?

Okay, on one hand, I do wish I could have done this in a face-to-face class because I feel like I missed out on a lot. However, I did have to go to one all day lab where we did some really basic micro stuff. Mostly the labs were things I had to do myself at home or virtually and write up lab reports for. It was a lot of reading and learning on my own; however, at our cc there are only a few sections offered. I am glad it is over.

I took micro and physio together... there is a catch, those were the only two classes I took. Micro at my school is 5 units (quarter system and some school has more than 5) but the work load was at least 7 units and sometimes it feels like 10 units.

So my suggestion is psychologically add at least 2 or 3 extra units to micro (quarter) and adjust your schedule accordingly. If you can't afford taking just two classes (i.e. you need to go full time to qualify for financial aid), then the rest of the classes, take the easiest you can fine, even if you have to take 5 PE classes.

I did it - took A/P II, micro, speech and a philosophy course in one semester. Managed to make As in all of em but thought it was my hardest semester........until I started my 1st semester of nursing school. Now that semester looks like a piece of cake :chuckle
