I received a flyer from a close friend of mine regarding Western Governor's University. I've never heard of this program before but am interested in their BSN program. But how legitimate is this program? Anyone ever heard of it or attended any of the nursing programs there? I consider myself an excellent self directed learner and since a majority of this program is online (other than the clinicals) I feel this program would be ideal for me. THanks!
Thanks Caliotter! just received the email link to take the exam. have you gotten any feedback from other students who've taken their courses. Are you going to try out WGU?Sincerely,

I am being held up because one of my schools from the dark ages never sent my transcripts. When I asked about my chances for getting admitted the new counsellor beat around the bush. I am somewhat reluctant at this point because I can no longer afford it and my employer can't provide me with night shift work. Have to work to pay for it. But I would like to know if I can get in so that the waiting isn't a waste of time. Good luck.
Hi caliotter,
i am waiting for western university's reply on my application for the msn-e but wanted to have a plan b, c, and d in place just in case i am not one of the lucky 60 for 2010. For me, i still have micro, biochem and the cna licensure for this school. or I can just go back to west coast university and pay too much for a bsn. or try out csuf, azusa pacific, concordia or national university. Mt st. marys is an option too. So many students and not enough spaces to take us all in.

I've been playing phone tag and email tag with them for ages. Yesterday, my phone rang and I saw it was them. Can you believe the guy hung up after two rings? I answered it to get nothing. Then he goes into a spiel on my voicemail to tell me what I already knew from the previous three communications. This does not bode well. The other lady actually had the audacity to make a comment about whether or not I was still interested and that I should apply to other programs. Kind of cheeky if you ask me. They are showing no interest in me. It is not the other way around.
I know how you feel. I called and called and called and called and called. The counselor I am assigned to would not call me back. I even made a telephone appointment with her to call me at a certain hour and she did not call me at that time. I was lucky enough to get an official transcript evaluation done before I was assigned to her. All of my prior course work transferred from my previous college. I believe they are looking for people that have completed all of their pre-requ's. They have lots of pre-requ's. I finally talked to my counselor and she said that I needed to finish my pre-requ's because they do not have a way to accommodate people without the pre-requ's now. According to my transcript evaluation, I need 4 more classes, microbiology, nutrition, pharmacology, and biochemistry. Once I finish microbiology I will give her a call and see what she says. Another thing, I did not have to pay the application fee. I'll try to keep you posted.
Is there anyone else out there that can only attend school online, in the evenings or on the weekend because they have to work to support their family?
Why are their not enough schools to accommodate us? There is no way I can afford paying $70,000 for a nursing program. yug
WGU just became accredited by CCNE and it is listed on the CA BRN list of approved programs. They have recently increased the number of hospital clinical sites to five from three. Their first group starts clinical training in July and the second group starts in Jan 10. I really find it hard to believe that Cedars-Sinai Hospital would affiliate itself with a "diploma mill". And who cares if it were a "diploma mill", as long as graduating from it entitled one to become licensed as an RN in CA?
I agree, I hope I get in.
What most of these posts miss is that if you are already an RN, you have NO clinical requirements in the RN-BSN program, regardless of where you go! As a WGU student, I've already proven that my program is exactly the same as that of UNC......there are several of us in the ED that are all RN-BSN students at 3 different schools. All of us are doing the same thing on the same task sites. Regardless of the argument, that's the proof right there.
When you insult a program on a message board, you either got turned down for admission or well.....I can't really think of any other reason why you would insult another program.
guys is it 2 years for lpn-adn or lpn-bsn??
If it is Western Governors University you are interested in, it is two years for LPN/LVN to BSN. There is no ASN program. You do your two years of prerequisite/corequisite courses first, then apply for admission and start the clinical portion of the nursing program. After two years you graduate with a BSN. If you go to their website you can read that recently they have started making provisions for people or they plan in the near future to allow people to enter before completing all of the prereqs/coreqs. Go to the prelicensure page on the website: http://www.wgu.edu
I was wondering what the people admitted to the January or April cohort think about the education at WGU? I am very interested but nervous because I don't want to waste 2 years of my life and $20,000 if it is not worth it. I want to make sure I can get a job after and get into graduate school after. Any imput woud be great. Thanks.
