I received a flyer from a close friend of mine regarding Western Governor's University. I've never heard of this program before but am interested in their BSN program. But how legitimate is this program? Anyone ever heard of it or attended any of the nursing programs there? I consider myself an excellent self directed learner and since a majority of this program is online (other than the clinicals) I feel this program would be ideal for me. THanks!
hi,
I too got accepted into the January cohort at WGU!! Am very excited about it and can't wait to advance my career and personal life of course.
I will be attending the Cedars-Sinai clinicals. If anyone else is please let me know..maybe we can do study groups and help each other out..as I found that is the best way to get through nursing school. We gotta stick together through this.
Congratulations on starting in January. I was supposed to be considered for the January cohort but never got any input concerning my transcripts until I started to email and call them over and over. Now they tell me they didn't get a transcript, months after I applied. But the lady who left a message was quick to let me know that I wasn't in the January cohort. Their lack of interest in me as a prospective student is turning me off. Please continue to post here so that others can see how the program turns out, for those that are lucky enough to gain WGUs attention.
Im so sorry to hear that. Yea I was waiting since August for an answer regarding the January cohort and found out just last week. My first counselor kept on saying that he didn't know what is going on with the program so I just requested another counselor and had appointments with her every week since October updating me on the nursing panel's decisions and progress. But I did kept on calling before I got this new counselor trying to find out what's going on and the whole prgress did take a looonnnggg time but finally made it. For me WGU was my last chance to get in and affordable too. Will keep updates on how the program goes but not really concerned about it. i'll just do my work and clinicals just like any other nursing school. Good luck witht he next cohort. I would apply again for July!!!! and keep on calling and calling them!!!! Happy Holidays!!!!!
I've been playing phone tag and email tag with them for ages. Yesterday, my phone rang and I saw it was them. Can you believe the guy hung up after two rings? I answered it to get nothing. Then he goes into a spiel on my voicemail to tell me what I already knew from the previous three communications. This does not bode well. The other lady actually had the audacity to make a comment about whether or not I was still interested and that I should apply to other programs. Kind of cheeky if you ask me. They are showing no interest in me. It is not the other way around.
Caliotter if you already have your LVN and all scienses and a BA, do you know about how long it would take to complete the degree? Next cohart starts in April, hmmmm, I'm taking stats this spring semester so I would be interested more in the cohart after that one. I would be willing to make the commute to S. Cali for clinicals. Thanks for your experience, I hope you can get yours straighened out soon.
Many online universities are legitimate..you're going to get those who are against online degrees(usually, the older generation, but not always). However, for RN to BSN, online is a good thing for many people. Check if the program is NLN or CCNE accredited and it's usually a good thing if there is a traditional "brick and mortar" program affiliated with the school too.Can you show me where i can find out if a school is approved, and what exactly that means. Can anyone show me where Maric college, National U and U of Phoenix is a approved school, and i know many RNs from Maric and these other 2 schools.
This would help me alot, since i cant seem to find where on the state board site what exactly not approved means and which schools are or are not.
thanks.
There's a board here that may give some good advice(distance learning thread under the students tab).

On their website, it says that it is estimated to take two years (four semesters?) to complete the clinical portion of the program. You have to have the required subjects (pre and co-reqs) completed before applying. They state that in the future they hope to phase in the modules for the first two years for those who want to start from the beginning with WGU instead of transferring in courses they have completed elsewhere.

Spoke to a admissions guy today after about a month of phone tag.
4 semesters (or 2 years), 176 hours clinicals each. approx 17,ooo + books, fees and uniforms (i would guess about 21,000 total.) 1 on 1 mentor at one of their hospitals. Seminars held at a facility near the hospital you are assigned to.
At least a CNA is required.

I took the entrance exam. Nothing to worry about, very easy. Hardest part was to write a very straightforward short essay.

I just got a phone call yesterday that I was accepted into the January cohort
.
I emailed the University of California, Los Angeles School of Nursing Admissions Recruiter asking if they accept the BSN from WGU. They said THEY DO
I was also accepted into a community college a few miles from me.
BUT with having a bachelors degree already... I feel that I wouldn't want to be in school another four years to receive another bachelors degree.
