Hi everyone. I will be starting a nursing program this august (yea!!) and am curious if anyone else has ever heard of this. As far as I know I am going to be charged for classes I already took at another college. A&P 1 for example, I just took this spring at a community college, I wont be taking it again during nursing school, but they will be charging me for it since it is part of the curriculum. Essentially I will be paying for it twice. This will be the same for any classes that i have taken ahead of time. I am going to call the school for more clarification about this but was just wondering if anyone else has run into this situation. Thanks!

Nope, I've never heard of a school charging you for classes that you aren't taking. When a school accepts transfer credits, there is no fee or cost involved. What nursing school is this?

Absolutely not! That's insane - definitely call the school to clarify.
I really hope I am misunderstanding, I will definetly call them tomarrow to clarify. Its vermont technical college(part of the vermont state college system). They do LPN the first year, RN the second year.
VERY strange. Usually state or city schools have no problem taking credits from community college (especially if the CC was in the same state) and wouldn't ask you to pay again.

Yeah that is weird. If you could, I would try somewhere else. That's crazy!

Yeah, call the school and make sure you're understanding that correctly. That doesn't sound right to me.

I agree with the others ... but can believe that some "for-profit" schools might be that sleazy. If that is what the OP's school is doing, it suggests that the school might be really focused on squeazing every penny it can out of its students. That would be a VERY bad sign.

If that was the case I would tell the school, many places they could shove their own foot. That is ludicrous to think that even though you wont be taking the class they still think they deserve the money for it.

i am begining an lpn program this fall through a community college program, and i intend to bridge for my rn in the non so distant future.
"tech" schools and private nursing schools like ecpi, etc usually include everything in the cost, even if you have taken it recently. this is one o the many reasons i chose a community college versus a tech school.

They do a variation of block tuition. This is not all that unusual, many colleges do this.
In a block tuition system, the student is charged a set price for tuition, it doesn't matter how many credits he takes - within a range. Usually the range is 12 to 16, but at this school it is 12 to 20.
The effect is to pay the same price whether you take A/P at this school or a different one. Or you could look at it as a chance to take prereqs needed for a later BSN for free.
