  1. Hi! congrats on getting into a program! I am 4 months away from completing an lpn program and the one thing that i think would have been helpful to study beforehand is medical terminology and abbreviations. I wouldn't go nuts on the abbreviations though, just learn the common ones. Other than that just make sure you dont totally forget all of the a&p your learned (if you've already taken that). Good luck and when you start just remember to relax and take one day at a time. :)
  2. I too would ask the school, but just for an example I transferred all of my pre-reqs from a NY school to a VT school and had no problem. Good luck :)
  3. Hi. As far as I've read the pay for nurses (RN & LPN) is much lower in the south, especially Florida. I live in NY now but used to live in Florida and there are some advantages to living there, no state income tax is a huge one. I don't think I could ever live there again and deal with that heat all year long! I do miss the beach though:( Congrats on starting nursing school!, I started 2 weeks ago, so far so good. If you look at one of the LPN salary threads on here you can probably get an idea of the pay down there.
  4. Here is a great link for anyone who is unsure about how plan b works. Plan B/Emergency Contraception - McKinley Health Center - University of Illinois
  5. I just took it on saturday. The way mine went was: everyone has their own dummy and air bag with detachable mask. The group of 30 or so was split into 5 groups with 5 instructors and we all sat in a big room on a mat. Then for about 3 hours you follow along with a dvd where you first see the actor perform the skill, then you practice along with the video, then on the third time the instructor checks you off on the skill. So pretty much, your instructor watches and critiques you the whole time and your being tested throughout the whole day without really even noticing it. At the end of the day you have a 20 question multiple choice test and that's it. I got my card before I left. I really, really liked the way they did this class. Years ago when I did it everyone had to share dummies and go through everything, and then be tested on it all at once at the end. This was much better and I really feel like I remember it too. Although the next day I certainly felt all those chest compressions, lol, you'll use muscles you don't usually use, or at least I did. :) Good luck!!
  6. scratch that, i miss-read your post, to see the schedule for orientation day get on vtc's website and search for "orientation", click on randolph center new student orientation, then over to the right under "events" click on full story ( below all the farmers market links) then click the link to view the brochure.
  7. You can view it on blackboard.
  8. Hi Krystal! Congrats on getting in to the program! I will be going to the Bennington site. I'm really excited and cant wait to start. I'm not looking forward to the drive up to randolph for orientation though, ugh.. it'll be about three hours from where I live. What time do you plan on getting there? It seems like the only thing we have to be there for before noon is the required computer training. (whatever that is :) )
  9. Hi chelsea :) congrats on getting into the program! I'm really excited too, cant wait to start. I still need to get a watch as well, and a lab coat. I'm a little irked that we cant order our books, or even see what books we need, until the 24th. I even called the bookstore to see if they could tell me the titles of the books I will need.... nope. hmmm, a little weird. oh well the 24th will be here soon enough :)
  10. Hey again :) I got the littmann lightweight II. I ordered it from allheart.com. I pretty much just looked on these forums to see what people recommended. The tubing on it is so much nicer than on the cheaper ones. So I looked up Newport, WOW you are waaaay up there! Almost in another country, literally! lol Do you like it? how are your winters? I currently live in NY, but I think somewhere down the line I might want to move to VT, especially if I want to stay in the VT college system. Out of state tuition is going to kill me. :)
  11. Hey dalgal, I emailed the bookstore today and they said online ordering wont be available until the 24th...grrrr. I just want to know what books I need really. I emailed them again with my schedule to see if they would tell me the titles and I got the same reply as the first so I think it is an automatic reply. Guess I'll just have to wait or give them a call. How are you doing with everything? The only things I have left to do is get a lab coat, books, and send my Id picture. oh, and i get my 2nd hep b shot next week. Which site are you attending again? Newport was it?
  12. I started checking efollet yesterday morning and still nothing
  13. I haven't been through this situation yet but I will be. This is the only way my school does it. LPN the first year, RN the second. I think this is a great way to do it personally. I start next month, can't wait! Good luck whatever you decide to do:)
  14. Congrats! I start my program next month. Have fun and good luck :)
  15. Thanks for the replies everyone. I called the school the other day and it is like saysfaa says above. I have been a part time student for a while now (paying per credit) so the "over 12 credits" thing never occurred to me. what confused me initially is when I called the schools registrar and asked if I should take A&P II over the summer at my current school and he said " it will make it easier on your self but is still included in our tuition" i'm like whaaat?! So anyway, I understand how it works now. Thanks again everybody. :)
