  1. I am right there...about to take the plunge. I have had a good job with the phone company for the last 16 years. I am 35 with 2 children. I just got accepted into a 1+1 LPN to RN program. I will have to quit soon to go FT nursing student. I sometimes wonder "what the hell are you thinking", but all the years I have worked for the company, I knew it was never the place that I intended to be for the rest of my life. It would be so easy to stay here until a ripe old age of retirement. But the truth is, there is no gurantee in anything. My husband works for the same company so it makes me a little nervous having all employment wrapped up with one employer. I have always wanted to be in healthcare, now I have that opportunity. I did take all of my pre-req's at night while working full time. Some saving prep work I did included, stopping contributions to my companies 401k, which was 11% of my check every 2 weeks. I then redirected that money to their credit union savings instead. Also, once my car was paid for which was financed through them, that money was directed into the same savings account. Now, I should have enough money to get me through the nursing program with a little extra on the side. I plan on watching every dime and it will be a struggle, but I know it can be done and I do have faith that the nursing jobs will pick back up again. I know I am scared about taking the plunge, but when there is a will and it is HIS will..there is also HIS way of getting you through it! Good luck to you!
  2. Exactly, I think it is a great opportuntiy and I am going for it! Just would like to hear from someone who has been through this type of program for feedback..or just that push to say GO DO IT! Thanks!
  3. Has anyone been through a 1+1 LPN bridge program? I did not get a slot into the fall semeseter of my college for the RN program, but they did offer me a 1+1 bridge into their program. I would go to their partner school for 10.5 months and take the test for my LPN liscense and enter into the RN program at the 3rd semester. This sounds like a great opportunity to get into the grit of nursing. I have an associate degree now with all my nursing pre-req's complete with the exception of having nutrition complete. Would you recommend going that route to get into nursing or wait out it out for a slot direct into the RN program at the 1st semester? Any advice/experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you
  4. I am a pre-nursing student and I am also very interested in oncology. After obtaining your RN liscense, are there other certifications that are needed to work in an oncology unit?
  5. I am in the same boat with the rest of you :) I have a son that will be 7 next month and a daughter who will be 3 in Dec and I will be 36 in Sept! I am down to my last pre-nursing required class for one nursing school and have 1 more pre-req for a different nursing school that I am taking in the fall. I plan on applying to both this fall. Hopefully I will get a slot in the spring 2011 semester. It has been a journey and family support is key! I work full time and have already completed 2 full years of school taking night courses! I am so ready to get into a nursing clinical program! Good luck to you and everyone else floating in the same boat!
  6. :dncgbby: FANTASTIC! CONGRATULATIONS!
  7. No, it is designed for existing LPN's to apply to the program and for people who have never had a day of experience in health care. The only advantage that LPN's have is they can Clep out of a semester of beginning nursing courses.
  8. Thanks Sliver, I knew I read something on that somewhere! I need to get busy! Tricia, a lot of those classes can be taken online. I personally need a classroom setting. I took Algebra I after being out of h.school for 16 years. I will not lie, It was a struggle all the way through, but I did Waaaay better than I imagined. Trust me, if I could do it, anyone can! LOL. It would be nice if the math program requirements could be taylored to what is functional in the nursing world, unfortunately we have to do that awful algebra before they let us into chemistry! Funny thing, in chemistry all we needed to know was how to add, subtract, multiple and divide in very simple problems! Good luck on your goal and stick with it. I am hoping to get a slot into Redlands or OSU/OKC. At Osu I have a nutrition class to take that they require. It will be my first and only online class YIKES! I have two younger children and completed all my course work at night. I think most programs would like for you to have all the pre-course work done before applying, they do not come out and say that, but everything is based on a points system. Grades and test scores. The more classes you have done the more points you get. In my case, I want to be able to focus just on the nursing courses when or "if" I get in! :) I know nurses that have graduated from both prgrams and had nothing but good things to say about them.
  9. I believe there may be some pre course workyou can do online with the exceptions of the science courses. I completed all of my pre-reqs on campus, with the exception of micro, which I am enrolled in now. What classes do you need to take? Are you planning on taking the entrance exam this fall for entrance into the spring semester? I got your private message, but I can not send messages yet or do not know how to reply. :)
  10. My brother just got accepted into OU's NP program. I'm not sure what they look at as far as qualifications, but he does have his BSN a good GPA and has several years experience as an RN. He was accepted along with 5 other people into the program and begins next week. It is very competetive as far as getting in. He will be able to work some on the side so, I think there may be some flexibility there. Good luck! I am still a pre-nursing student and hope to get into a RN program for spring 2011!
  11. What kind of numbers did you have when you applied? I am going to apply again in the fall and I will have all pre-req's done with the exception of nutrition. I am thinking about retaking the HESI to see if I can bring my score up, I made an 81. Which leaves a lot of room for improvement. I got the max amt of points for GPA. I'm hoping that will get me in. I plan on applying at Redlands too. Maybe I should consider applying to a 4 year school.
  12. I have completed just about all my pre-nursing courses there and plan on applying there and reapplying to OSU/OKC in the fall. I have enjoyed every class I have taken. I have always heard they have a good program. I know several nurses that have graduated from there and have great jobs today. My brother who is also an RN started there and later transferred to OSU/OKC. Good luck!
  13. WOW, cut off was 87 points! Got my regrets letter, which is fine, I do not mind waiting another semester. I need to get micro and nutrition done and I should be good to go. Good luck to you in your future career. I plan on applying to Redlands as well as OSU, in hopes to get a slot for the Spring 2011 semester!
  14. Looks like you have some awesome numbers. Like the above post, it all depends on the talent pool that applied. I think you have a great chance, but my opinion doesn't matter. I am also waiting for a letter for a college in Oklahoma. Good luck to you!
  15. I called the college yesterday and they said they hope to have the "letters" sent out by friday! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
