Has anyone heard of Career Care Institute?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this board and was wondering if anyone has either been to, or heard of Career Care Institute in Ventura County Ca. I went there on Friday and I took the entrance exam. It all seemed to go a little fast, but I was really excited and wanted to get in. I did good on the exam only to find out the cost is $25,000. Yikes, I am supposed to go in and apply for finacial aid and hope for the best. What do you recommend I do??? I don't think I will get that much aid. Is this the typical cost of Private Vocational Schools? . If anyone has any advice I would much appreciate your input! Thanks! :clown:

What a coincidence. I was born and raised in Ventura County, more specifically Oxnard.

I haven't heard of Career Care Institute, but I did attend a private LVN school in Van Nuys that cost $20,000. $18,000 to $27,000 is the going rate for private LVN schools in Southern California.

Hey Commuter, are you still in Oxnard? I live in Malibu, not to far.

I found CCI through the Board of Vocational Nurses website. I think they are fairly new. It seems that right when I called they were trying to fill up classes. I am supposed to go in today and fill out paperwork for the financial aid. Being married, and with my husbands income I am not sure how much I will qualify for. Needless to say he is not in favor of me going to this school!! Ok, to much info right?

I read in another one of your posts that you attended Casa Loma College. I thought about applying there also. When are they starting an lvn to rn bridge program? That is great.

I am no longer in Oxnard; I left in 2003. From 2003 to 2005 I lived in Bakersfield (central California). I am now 1,400 miles away from California, more specifically the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in North Texas.

Casa Loma College should have an RN program in late 2006. I can guarantee that it will be very expensive.

Be careful. The one CCI located where I live (don't know if I should say where) wad just stripped of their accredidations. If that's how you say it?? I'm not sure why, but I know their pass rate with the NCLEX was in the low 50%. I've also "heard" that the students don't know much when doing their clinical's at the local hospital. Maybe ask for a previous students name and question them about the education they received? That's how I narrowed down where I'm going to school now, along with the % pass rate for the NCLEX. I found out lots just talking to 2 previous students.

Good Luck!

Thanks Baylay, I will do that! I did decide to wait and find out more about the school, it sounds like that was a good decision. I think I may check out Casa Loma College. That is where Commuter went and it is not that far from where I live.

You'll be lucky is there's not much of a wait list. At the Jr. College where I live there is more than a 18 mos wait. Probably 36 mos since they only have a class every 18 mos. I hear horror stories about in the San Fern. Valley area of 3 yr wait lists. And Career schools costing 35,000. I was lucky I found the one I'm going to.

Good luck to you!

yes i have... and to assure you, i have attended this program @ ventura. i was a student of the very first batch. and back then it was only about $20k. and encourage u even more, i have successfully passed the board exam and now working as an LVN part-time while i'm going to school for my bridge program here in san francisco. about 85% of my class passed the nclex examination, not bad for us first-time guinea pig student of theirs. so yes, they are a good school with great internship classes such as in glendale adventist, henry mayo, children's hosp in LA and so on! hope this reply helped u out a bit on deciding to forego your application!

Hi jmalabo, I am considering this school and need to make my decision in 2 days. I would be in the 3rd class starting in the south bay area. Was your a part time or full time program? How much homework should I expect? Any tips or pointers if you would chose this school again would be appreciated.

I go to Joseph's School of Nursing in Lancaster,Ca.

The cost is $16,000.
