I've applied and am curious if anyone else on here is applying for Spring 2011. Good luck!
kdrose01,
Thank you so much for your reply.
I looked at their website and here are the pre-req's.
I don't understand the baccalaureate 39 credits part. Does that mean I've to take any classes for 39 credits or am I ok since I already have a BA?
So when does the program start? I saw it said pre-fall 2011, does that mean the program starts next summer?

I live in Orlowitz, so I don't know too much about Barringer. But I hear it's nicer. Orlowitz is "okay." I live in a 1-bedroom by myself and I like it. It's typically quiet. Mostly a mix of med, pharm, and nursing students. There aren't any first time undergrad students because to start at Jefferson you have to be at least junior status. Living in either Orlowitz or Barringer makes you central to everything on campus, which is really nice, especially if you need to go to the library late at night. Some things I dislike about the building: the elevators take FOREVER to come (and there are three.. most of the time anyway, if one isn't out of order), the basement where the laundry room is has big creepy roaches, and sometimes late at night the fire alarm goes off for no reason (usually isn't triggered by a person).
Someone asked about the typical FACT schedule. For the most part, expect to be in class all day on Thursdays and Fridays. You will have clinical two days a week (Saturday-Wednesday). Each clincal day is 12 hours, from 7am to 7pm. That leaves you with three free days each week, which is not bad. You can expect this type of schedule from May through early October. It changes slightly after that point. For example, I'm currently taking two classes: Management of Childbearing Families and Nursing Informatics (online), so I only have class for half a day on Friday. However, I have my OB clinical three days during the week from 2pm-10pm.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! :)
Thanks so much, MPHgirl! I really appreciate it!
Would you recommend that we do anything to prepare for nursing school? Also, I've heard that the summer quarter is the most difficult. Would you agree so far? If you don't mind, where have your clinicals been?
Another thing I read somewhere online is that students from various schools are friendly because Jefferson is small. Would you say that you have friends in the different programs?
Thanks so much! Good luck!
To someone who requested to join the FB page this week - I think it was a young woman whose first name began with L:
Send another request to join. I received a notice that you wanted to join and kept trying to confirm you, but I don't think it ever allowed you to join. The request has disappeared, so I have no idea what happened. Wacky Facebook!

I'll answer and then MPHGirl can answer and you can compare. :)
To prepare, be sure you know your medical terminology. It will help you during lecture a lot. Here's a link to one site that has free medical terminology info and quizzes -- there are more out there if you Google it: Medical Terminology Ver. 2.0
If it's been a while since you took chemistry and used dimensional analysis to solve problems, review that. Dimensional analysis, once mastered, will help you BREEZE through med. calc. And to boot, I never, EVER got a med. calc. question wrong on in-class tests or the HESIs. Remember to sleep now. :)
Don't get crazy reading textbooks; it's not worth the time right now.
Here's a thread I started a long time ago about things to get out of the way before you start school: Things to get out of the way NOW if you are starting in the Spring - Nursing for Nurses
To me, the first half of the second quarter was the most difficult. I was constantly exhausted and the material was intense. But that first quarter can be overwhelming, because there is so much to do and so many things to get used to. The good news is that the 2nd half of the 2nd quarter was much more relaxed, b/c we only had class one day a week. It won't last, though. :) Peds and Neuro/Psych comes after that. And remember that you can get 3-days-a-week (or 3 evenings) clinicals. My friends almost all hated that schedule.
I didn't have any friends from other programs, but everyone at Jeff was friendly.
I did clinicals at: Jefferson (3), Riddle Hospital, Kennedy Hospital, Friends Hospital, Magee Rehab
Best of luck to all!

Everything that AtomicWoman said is true! Be sure to relax and have fun before the program starts because there will be little free time. I don't yet have any friends from other programs, but there are opportunities to get to know other people via on-campus organizations and events. Most people are friendly here. As far as rotations, so far I have been at Jeff twice and Pennsylvania Hospital. My next rotation is at CHOP (can't wait!!!). You will need to buy the iTouch yourself (if you buy online via Jeff there is a small discount)...or if you have a blackberry or a smart phone you can simply buy the nursing software and install it into your device.
Do you know if anyone buys their textbooks on line instead of at the Jeff bookstore in the bundle? I often buy my books on the internet and save a lot of money (and since the tuition at Jeff is so high, I'd love to save some bucks somehwere!). Any thoughts about that, AtomicWoman or MPHGirl?

Congrats, mtngal! Keep searching for the FB page. Try Thomas Jefferson University Fact 2011. There's one request in right now to join, but it won't let me accept the person. I'll keep trying. FB is sometimes temperamental!
