Has anyone taken any classes from Western Governors University, the RN to BSN program? It looks like a great program, but the classes are not your typical pay per class style. They go by a 6 month period, you pay a fee for that period and can take or test out of as many classes as you would like.
I also like the fact that when I told them I could not start until the fall of 2010 they kept my name and information on file and update me once a month, but are not pushing. I filled out a form for info on another college 2 days ago and they haven't stopped calling, calling, calling since. I do not like the pressure tactics. Thank you.
Hi Christy 78 and everyone else!!! I am also very interested in WGU. First I was considering a regular college (meeting in class, etc.) but thought I'd save a lot more time doing it online (no travelling, parking, lectures), especially if it is said on their website that RN-BSN can be completed in 1 year.
I have a few questions, that noone asked before, if you don't mind.
1.Does BSN diploma indicate that my degree is earned online? How soon do they mail you a diploma?
2.WGU website says that if you hold AAS in Nursing then "You will likely be able to transfer all requirements except
nursing BSN classes". College I graduated from and got AAS in nursing did not give us a chemistry, nutrition, biochemistry or literature classes, does it mean that I will have to take it for WGU on line or should I take it in regular college (I am not so great at Chemistry and won't be able to study on my own)
3.What does WGU mean by these courses:???
Foundations
Language and Communications
Quantitative Literacy
Behavioral Science
4.I am not looking to complete RN to BSN in 6 months, 1 year is fine with me. I am also very busy, smal children, full time job, approximately how many HRS a week I should study to complete my program in 1 year?
5.Do they have theirdead lines for papers, projects, tests, etc? Or they credit you when they receive your work?
6. Is it posible to ask the name(last name) or your advisor(since I see that many people would not go on with the program due to miscommunication with their advisor?
Thank you very much for your help and good luck to everyone with their studies!!!
P.s. Please forgive me for any mistakes , English is not my native language:)
Hi Purpledrop!
I'm all set to start the program on June 1st. In looking back at the admissions process, this was quite simple. The trouble was with the transcripts because I didn't expect to send in each one including college courses I took while in high school. I had a good relationship with the enrollment advisor. Her name is Emily Garoffolo (I forget if its two r's or two f's). She's concise and don't look for more info like the one found here. She's to the point and may give only some clarification. She will refer you to the website.
You will most likely have to take English literature, introductory chemistry, and general nutrition. You take those classes at WGU. For an explanation of the domains and subdomains, print the RN-BSN Course of Study. It's a 14-page PDF file. You'll find lots of info. I would attach a link but by computer is acting up this morning.
For now that's all I can answer. Good luck!
I'm also starting on June 1st. I do have to take the 2 math courses, college algebra and statistics, along with one art/humanities class. Everything else was waived by transfer. Am a little nervous about statistics, hopefully it won't be too bad.
I also had a pretty easy admission process and a really great advisor. They told me I should be done in about a year, but I'm hoping for 10 months or so. For those worried about the admissions test, don't be. It's really straightforward and pretty easy.
Also, liked the fact that I can do the clinical projects at my facility where I work.
Hi all, I wanted to put my two cents! Love Love WGU!!!!! I started this month on 5/1/11 and I have completed the intro course EWB2 in two days. I also finished Professional Roles and Values, and Contemporary Nursing issues. SO... I have completed 3 courses and tomorow I will be working on my 4th course. I am very dedicated. I work full time day hours, I am a wife and a mother. I have a supporative family. It can be done. My goals is the same as christys, I want to be finished in 4 months. This next course I think will take a little more time it's more in depth and a challenge for me.
Good Luck everyone!
Lisa 1980, did you have to take any pre-reqs before you took first nursing classes? After they evaluate your transcripts do they give you a complete list of classes you will need to graduate? Is theer a given time to complete a class, or there is a specific numbers of questions you have to complete to be "done" with a course?
My credits transfered. I did not have any pre reqs. I only had a total of 8 courses including the intro EWB2. The intro class you must do in 20 days but it's a basic tutorial. Yes they give you a list of classes. They decide with you on how long to complete a course. I think you have a month maybe two to complete each course. There's no questions, thus far my assignments have been APA style papers within the course. Within each course you have 3 or 4 papers to write.
