Has anyone applied to the Srjc 2011 nursing program?

Published

hi all, :D

my name is natalie and i wanted to see if anyone else has applied to the srjc for the fall 2011 or spring 2012 nursing program. i would love to speak with you! i am so nervous and anxious to see if i get in . it is so mean that they make us wait until the end of may to know if we made it.

thanks, natalie

Hi Amberleena,

Yes, I did hear that over 500 people applied this semester and I have even heard that 700 people applied! I always have to keep in mind though that not all of those people meet the criteria. Also, I have heard that even if you do get a rejection e-mail sometimes you are put onto a separate waiting list and find out a couple months later that you made it in. I really wish that the JC would consider giving priority to those of us who already attend the JC. As far as your applicaion goes, I am so sorry that the first time you didn't get in...bummer. (I get paranoid too that I didn't fill out everything properly, even though I checked like 50 times!:)) Did you mail in your application or did you walk it in? If you mailed I guess i would be good to make sure they received it. If you walked it in they should have given you a little receipt to prove that you turned i in. I think that you are right though; I doubt the JC would return applications just beacuse of the shear number of applications they have to sift through.

I think that we are all nervous, but what can we do? I just pray that all will work out, but if not I'll apply to other UC schools. I hope all the best for you! Let me know how it turns out:confused:.

Thanks, Natalie

I just heard back from College of Marin, I am #82/273 applicants! This is before the TEAS test scores are reported. Apparently over 500 people applied, but only 273 made the cut-off. Since the SRJC's formula is higher at 80%, versus 73% at COM, it is likely many people didn't make the cut. My friend already discovered he didn't reach 80%, so I suppose if you haven't been rejected yet, you are already in the lottery.

Good luck to you both!

Okay, I'm jumping on this thread train...has anyone heard anything yet? My stomach flip flops every time I get a new mail notification on my phone. I too am planning my whole life around this program - where we'll be living, whether or not I can quit my job for the program or look for a better one, purchasing a vehicle or possibly even a home.....this is torture! This is my second time applying, last year this is the letter I received:

Dear Applicant,

I regret to inform you that you were not accepted for admission in the ADN program for Fall 2010/ Spring 2011 based on the lottery number you received.

This year we received 457 applications for 120 openings in our ADN program. Due to the significant budget cut backs by the State of California, and the subsequent reductions in our administrative staff, we were unable to analyze all applications as we had previously. Those students who applied previously and who had a cut score of 80 or better were not processed again; the previous cut score was accepted for this year. This year we requested that Institutional Research division apply random numbers to the applications prior to the analysis. We then analyzed the applications based on their lottery number. Once the classes were filled and there were an adequate number of applicants on the alternate list, we stopped analyzing applications.

Your application received a lottery number that was from 200-457 which is a very low probability of being accepted this year. We do not have the administrative staff to analyze applications that have an extremely low chance of being accepted. Should there be a high number of students who decline admission, we will then analyze the applications lower on the list as needed. Please do not request your individual lottery number, due to our inadequate staffing; we are unable to provide that information. Thank you for considering our nursing program and best wishes for your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Sharon Johnson, RN, PHD, FNP, Out going director

Susan Crawford, RN, MSN, In coming Director

I actually received it via email on June 7, 2010 at 5:31pm, five days before my wedding day. Talk about stressful!

So I tried calling the Health Sciences Dept twice (yesterday and today) to find out if letters have gone out yet because I'm paranoid that somehow they don't have my correct email address, but I've only gotten the voicemail system and I didn't want to leave a message for fear of them rejecting me - "you've bugged us, your out!" - yes, this is how paranoid I am. I don't think I've gotten a goods night's rest in the past two weeks. Although writing this all down is actually making me feel a lot better at the moment......is anyone else going through the same thing or am I just being insanely anxious and paranoid for no reason? (Please don't say the latter!) :)

I spoke to rachael in the office a few days ago. She said we won't hear until late June if not later. Her exact words. I asked about when the teas will be and she said it won't be decided until letters are sent. I was waiting to make flight plans to be out of the country and I decided to go ahead and go. It is frustrating that they don't think we have a lot to sort out if we do get in. I have to hire help and don't like the fact I'll be rushed to find someone if I do get in. I didn't get in last year and there are 550 applicants this year per my advisor. I decided not to put my life on hold. I'll go to Dominican if I don't get in this year.

I'm a little upset with the SRJC's decision to not release the acceptance letters until late June/early July. That gives people only a month to prepare themselves for full-time school. Additionally, if people make arrangements for school, then don't get accepted, they could lose out on working. College of Marin has already finished the TEAS process and sent out the letters of acceptance... I don't really understand why it is taking this long for the SRJC.

At the end of May, the administrative assistant told me they would likely be released mid-June. It is a very stressful situation. :sniff:

just got the rejection via email, which i dont mind, since i have been accepted elsewhere....but they sure do know how to make a rejection letter sound a whole lot more confusing than it needs to be...lol!!

Just got my rejection email as well. NBB2013 where did you get accepted, and congrats ? Does anyone know if they filtered out the people who did not meet the minimal requirements? You need a certain GPA and such to even qualify to get into the lottery. I'm almost 99.9% sure I met the min requirements to qualify but in some freak mistake maybe I didn't?? Would I still get a lottery number?? That's my big question.

In my letter, they did not give me the lottery number, but they stated the range I fell in. I was accepted to San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, so I will be headed there in the fall :) SRJC is actually no where near my house, but I thought id apply, since one of my closest friends lives right by...so, im not bummed. best of luck to everyone else!!!

I'm sorry you guys got bad news, but hopefully you both get accepted elsewhere. What exactly did your letter say? Did it say there was no space, or that you did not meet the requirements?

For anyone interested, I developed an excel spreadsheet that will tell you your "Qualifying Score" after entering your Core Sciences and English grades, as well as your GPA. Just to let you know where you stand in the process.

No email for me yet. I'm stressing out!

That's probably a good thing you haven't heard cause maybe you got in then !!!! :) All the non-acceptance emails went out today and maybe tomorrow will be the acceptance email :) Today being Tuesday...

Rejected. Again. Sigh..........maybe God just doesn't want me to be a nurse. :(

JbrHill - I really hope for you that no rejection letter means you got accepted! Best of luck to everyone who gets in!!!

Just got my email that I am in for the fall! Anyone else? Would love to chat about all the stuff that has to be done so quickly.

Crystal
