Anybody here studying in Harry truman college? and taking up Nursing course?

Specializes in Women's Health, Oncology.

Graduated from Truman over 14 years ago!

Great program producing some very clinically competent nurses.

I do appreciate the fact that even though some of the faculty has changed, alot of the same teachers are still there from when I went.

I think Mrs. Pat Murphy, Mrs. Domerand, Mrs. Lux and Mrs. Corbett are all still there.

If you are in Truman's nursing program and get a chance to pick who you will have as a teacher, try and get Mrs. Zimmerman (don't know if she is there or not?).

I happen to know her and she has alot of ER clinical experience and will really get you immersed into clinicals. She likes students willing to try anything in clinical, so jump right in!

Mrs. Zimmermann is still teaching at Truman, I had med-surg with her. We all just love her, great teacher, great sense of humor:)

fOR THOSE GRADUATING, HOW HAVE YOUR JOB OFFERS BEEN?

For those waiting to get accepted for this Fall, I've heard letters go out in May and it's done by lottery. Has anybody heard anything yet or know how they truly select you besides lottery? There's gotta be moree to it! Thanks.

Hi, im graduating from Truman this week, just passed the HESI and I'd have to say that it was a very tough program but I think Truman has the highest % of students passing NCLEX like 99.5%? And yes Mrs. Zimmerman is still there and our class only had her the last semester and I would have to say she is definitely my favorite teacher.

Did anyone also applied for Fall 08 nursing and still did not get an acceptance letter from Truman. Two of my friends got accepted and I still did not hear from the nursing dept yet. It drove me nut! :bluecry1:

I just graduated from Truman. They go by GPA first (3.5 and above). Then with the left over spots they do a lottery. We were told this the last week of the program.

I plan on applying to Truman next fall after completing my pre reqs. Do you need the 3.5 gpa in the pre-reqs or do they consider your gpa from all previous college courses (I have a bachelors in finance from U of I).

My gpa from U of I was 3.3. Do you think I will get in if I do well in the pre-reqs? Also what pre-reqs should I take (apart from bio, chem, and maybe math, but I am hoping I either test outof math or they accept my previous courses)?

Thanks!!!

They do take in account all GPA. They also look at Pre-reqs. Also, if you are applying for next year (Fall 09) make sure you test out of math and get the chem out of the way. They will not give you an application without those courses. Also, the reading test needs to to be taken at Truman and signed by one of the Communications Chairmans. It doesn't not matter if you took the test at another city college. It has to be done at Truman. If you think this is confusing, wait until you get in (fingers acrossed). But, all nursing programs are this messed up. It is all worth the hassle when you start and get that nice pay check.

Specializes in Emergency.
