Hardest class in nursing school

Updated:   Published

What was THE hardest class you've ever taken in nursing school. Some people tell me "med surge", some say "pathophysiology was the hardest", some say "OB", some say "pediatrics"...

Is there one that tries and weeds out students the most?

What was your hardest nursing class you've EVER taken. Is there one that reminds you of that everyday?

The hardest class wasn't in the program, it was Physio. But in the program, I have to say the Psych meds....yuck! One week to memorize 75 meds, classification, action, pharmacokinetics, adverse effects, contract indications.

My most difficult class, and the hardest for my classmates, was fourth semester Med/Surg - Critical Care. We started the semester with 83 students and lost 38 by the end of finals. It was the beginning of Prioritization and Management that took most out. The school only let six repeat and there are quite a few who still haven't gotten back in and that was December 2015. We had 38 left after fifth semester to graduate. It was brutal, but studying with the UWorld app helped me and quite a few others make it through the last two semesters with no problem.

Is this the app?

UWorld USMLE on the App Store

Wow, some people say pre-reqs, others say some nursing school classes.

How do you manage everything?

Right now, I'm taking A&P I and intro to statistics. That's it. This summer, I'll be taking NURS299(nutrition), and then this Fall I'll be taking A&P II and maybe another class like world lit that is part of the pre-req degree sheet.

The program is accelerated(18 mo?) so I'm wondering if I'll be back in a full load course mode in the program.

No, it is the UWorld NCLEX, by USMLE. It has its own app and even looks exactly like the NCLEX.

The best advice I can give you is to not sweat anything except the classes you are in right at that moment. Worrying about it only made my stomach hurt, so when I got tunnel vision, my grades went back up. That, plus I didn't have a life for two years!

Specializes in Adult Psychiatry, Correctional/Forensic Psychiatry.

Psychiatric nursing was my hardest class so far, hands down. I have never struggled so much in a class, but it also happened to be my favorite class I've took thus far. After that, pharmacology was probably the second hardest.

I am taking critical care now and I've heard that class was a beast, so it might just be harder than psych possibly.

So, you're familiar with some of my posts? Did you see the one about the time I failed to understand why a girl who was in the school I wanted to get in wouldn't talk to me for any reason even after she graduated? She wasn't a nice girl like "Hey, I'm down for just being friends" or "I'll share my nursing experience with you, but I don't want to date because...". I got no excuse for any reason about anything. She's very selfish. I've moved on already:sarcastic:. She is an example of the people who graduate from that program that don't tell you anything. So, I have no one to ask questions. That's the idea of winning a war: Knowing is half the battle.

I'm not saying help me with tests because that's lazy and not fair to those who worked hard for it. But things like how many instructors are in each class you take throughout the program(are some easy and some hard), what are ways you could learn materials that might be too much information or because it's an intense accelerated program how you can prioritize what is the most hardest class to study, what is a good way to organize your time, how many hours do you spend in class, how can I be successful in nursing school, are there teachers you could recommend me that maybe offer tutoring on the side, etc. etc. etc. These and many more questions I'd have would have been at her disposal but she took the easy way out in life and chose not to tell me anything.

You can be a decent person and if it's not what you want, at least be nice enough and say,"Hey, I'm sorry, I'm not interested BUT I'll do you a favor! I'll answer any question you want about nursing school. If you really want it that bad, I'm willing to help someone who wants to help themselves." She couldn't even say something like that. I should start my own tutoring program for nursing students or biology students. Selfish people piss me off if I get into a nursing school and graduate. I'll be like the Crash Course on youtube with the guy with glasses, Hank.

That girl owed you nothing, and you're leaving out the information about how you scared her with your many inappropriate emails. As many people told you in that thread, your attitude about her is demeaning and super creepy. It's no wonder she didn't want to expend any of her energy helping you out. The fact that you didn't listen to any of the people who responded to your thread is telling.

I then see her walking around with some guy in the library as if they're talking. I don't know who the guy is. So seeing that she couldn't even WAIVE at me hello and that she walked around with a guy as if they were "talking", I sent her friend a tense email with a lot of name calling.

After she sent me the "please delete my email" message, I kept emailing her begging for an explanation and why she sent it, kinda playing stupid and kinda not. She doesn't respond with an explanation. Just a week ago she send another email saying "Delete my email. Don't contact me again."

I respect her discipline but out of the 5-9 months ish I've been trying to get a reply out of her, I didn't get one email. I don't think it's fair.

I'd send her emails like "if we dated, I'd do this for you..." I'd send her emails about things(all of them being non-sexual obviously as I'm trying to be respectful and serious about someone who is serious about themselves and their future) and I once sent her an email saying I like talking to you like this because it's like you're a patient in a coma and you're in a tough situation and I"m here by your side supporting you. Basically using a patient in a coma thing as an analogy showing that I'm being or can be supportive. I thought it was sweet.

It's pretty clear to most anyone who reads your posts about her why she didn't want to "help you out." And it wasn't because she is selfish.

Pathophysiology or Pharmacology for me. Also calculating drip rates, I'm not a math person.

Seriously, this. I was browsing earlier tonight and ran across your other post regarding this situation. Honestly, it made me increasingly uncomfortable the further the thread went on, and I absolutely see where the girl would be avoiding confrontation of any sort. The fact that you brought your unwarranted anger towards her into a new thread that didn't involve her shows me that you are harboring an unhealthy amount of resentment after a simple romantic rejection. Completely inappropriate, and I honestly hope for her sake that you guys don't run into each other again. Your recap in this thread paints the situation in an entirely different light than your other post about the same situation. You really need to let this go, you are making those who read about the situation uncomfortable and we aren't even directly involved. That should be a big indicator that you are not handling the situation properly. The truth may hurt, but in this situation I think it is absolutely necessary that it be stated.
