hardest/best pre-nursing course!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

For the program I'm applying to, the sciences we had to take consist of: A&P 1, A&P 2, General Chemistry, Microbiology, and Food & Nutrition. So of the ones everyone has to take, which did you have the hardest time with, and enjoy most?

I personally LOVED A&P 1, I actually did so great in the lab for the following semester I was selected to be an assistant teaching assistant!

However, I HATED microbiology!! It was really hard for me and didn't really like it because the subject matter was on such a small scale (bacteria/viruses)

How about everyone else?

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

It's kinda odd, but my favorite has been A&P 2; my least favorite was A&P1. Liked Chemistry and Micro, Nutrition was fun. I don't know what it was about A&P1, but I really struggled to get a B.

Was A&P 1 your first science to take? If so that probably explains why you had a hard time. I've come to notice the more sciences I take the easier it gets because your brain just gets trained to learning the type of material, and things build alot from class to class.

Actually, it wasn't. A&P 1 came after I had already passed Chem and Micro. I think I went into it with a kind of cocky attitude, you know? I found out quickly that I wasn't all that, and it just seemed like I was playing catch-up the rest of the term. My professor was a bit scattered, and was sometimes difficult to follow, but I found I could do fairly well as long as I kept up with the reading. Her tests were brutal! But I got the B, and was very grateful for it!

Specializes in PICU.

My favorite was pathophysiology. Some of the pictures were so gross in our text book that I had to put post-it notes over the pictures, so I could actually read the text, but it was just so interesting! The worst for me was nutrition. The teacher I had was completely incompetent, and I learned nothing. And that was the class I was really hoping to learn a lot in!

yeah i hate nutrition too! im in it right now and its awful!

LOVED micro. Anatomy was ok... but I'm not liking Physio that much. I think it's just my personal motivation is kinda down right now. I'm ready to just FINISH pre-req's already. :-P

Specializes in Home Health, Case Management, OR.

Pathophysiology was facinating! I loved that class! I must be a science geek because I really enjoy Microbio and A&P.

Thats a hard question because I loved them all. I do think AP2 though has been my favorite out of them, because of the way the class is run its mostly student directed labs, very "mature" independent study. Chemistry lab was by far my least favorite i hated chem lab but that could be because I had never done chemistry and there was no direction or instruction and I felt lost.

I am in micro now and I really love micro I think its fascinating and probably the science we take closest related to what we will be doing.

I loved all my courses except A&P 1. Wow, that course really drained me of energy. Im just glad that its over. However, Mirco was my favorite course and i really learned alot. I also think that the professor that you have has a huge impacted on the course.(Making the course hard/easy) Good Luck!!

A&P I&II were hard for me, but fun too. Had a great instructor. Just a lot of new stuff being thrown at you. Micro was fun for same reason. Night class. Instructor headed lab of major hospital and brought in neat slides for us to consider.

My most favorite class so far has been A&P II. I have a fascination with the cardiovascular and respiratory systems which were covered in that class. I think Patho will end up being my most favorite though. I love studying disease.

My least favorite, as far as lecture goes, was Micro. I got an A in it but the subject matter was so boring to me. I was very happy when it was over.
