Hard time getting hired at a hospital setting

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to get a job as an RN in a Hospital for several years now and I haven't been able to. I currently live in FL. My question here is; How can you get experience if they do not give you any opportunities? My last hospital experience was in 2011. I have tried everything. I got three interviews, but nothing happened. It's very frustrating.

I see you are in Kissimmee. If that is correct, have you tried applying to Winnie Palmer? Right at the top of the job listings on the Orlando Health Career website is a listing for a L&D nurse at Winnie with at least 1 year of nursing experience.

Orlando Health in general is hiring. Dr. Phillips may be nearer to you, and South Lake Hospital is another option.

Yes I've tried every hospital and nothing. I had an interview at Winnie Palmer in January and nothing. I guess I'll keep on trying. Thanks for your response.

Why dont you try to apply in other nursing homes?

a last option would be try to volunteer for a shadow a nurse for sake of getting a professional reference.

This.

Kemi, the least you can do is try at another nursing home and get experience. Someone will give you a chance.

In a hospital setting, every low skilled worker who works at the hospital (CNAs, various assistants, secretaries, doormen, even *******ed plumbers) is in a nursing program!!!

This not only gives them priority consideration for hospital RN openings (current employees get offers first), but most have direct access to the unit managers so they can do things to get noticed, whereas you are just a name in a database. This means if you are applying as an outsider, generally you are screwed!!

Nursing homes on the other hand have openings because their CNAs hate working there, and they run away at the first opportunity, leaving unfilled positions.

Good luck.
