Greetings all! I am considering a new hairstyle. My hair is a little below my shoulders and I usually put it in a pony-tail or up with a twist. I know that I will need to have my hair up and out of the way during clinicals, so I am contrasting the "pulling long hair up and away", or some kind of neat and professional short style. Please give me your favorite way to wear your hair for clinicals/while nursing, short vs. long-up,up,and away.:heartbeat:nurse::heartbeat

For me it's easier to pull my hair up in a ponytail/other similar style; when I have short hair it always seems to take a lot more TLC to make it look nice. (I have really thick, curly hair that puffs up a LOT when it's cut short.) I have seen some people with really cute short hairstyles, though, so it's really your preference!! There's a wide, wide variety among the people I work with; anything goes (except crazy colors) as long as you have some way to keep it out of your face/ the patients' reach when you are working.

Back in a nice clip and shellacked with Elnett hairspray, lol. Sometimes if I am feeling ambitious I make a french twist or messy bun. I am going to have to cut it shorter again, it's just easier that way.

After school it doesn't matter. Do what makes you happy.

Agreed, especially for those early morning clinical rotations I was tempted to shave it off a time or two

I do shave.
But I guess that's one benefit to being a guy.

When I had it long enough it was in a ponytail all the time. Or I would braid it. Then I cut it short, in a rockish- layered - flippy-out-type of thing. oh man it drove me nuts too short to do anything with it. But it looked good.

I keep mine long enough to be back in a ponytail or up in a clip so the patient can't get it and I know its not dragging in anything gross when I am assessing or cleaning up my patients. Strictly a preference, I believe anything goes once you are out of school. Many of my coworkers have short hair.

I prefer mine to be at a length that I don't have to pull it all back in a ponytail. Man oh man, the headaches. I have mine just above my shoulders where part of it can be pulled back, but it's not long enough to get in anything or kids getting shots can't easily grab it.
I'm glad you said that, I didnt even think about the kids grabbing my hair. That makes sense, there have been a few dentist that, had they had long enough hair, I would have pulled it out!!!:redbeathe:D

I think it would depend on what kind of nursing I did -- psych or corrections, I'd want something too short for anyone to grab -- even on my floor, I've had crazy folks try to use a nurse's pony tail as a "handle" to grab them with.
