Hair style poll: Long or short?

My nursing program requires that your hair be off your neck, and i was wondering, if anyone- is going to/did chop off or grow out their hair for school?

I have med-lenghth hair now, and i'm really considering growing it out so that i can sweep it up in a pony-tail? How-ever i keep wondering it would just be easier to keep it short

What do you all think? :D

If your hair is already short enough to not require you to have to put it up and you're used to yourself with it, I'd leave it. My hair is a bit below my shoulder....kinda longish, and very thick. In the morning, when preparing to get dressed for clinicals, putting my hair up is the part I dread the most. We're not allowed to use jawclips (what I use ordinarily) or scuncis. Only hair tie allowed is an elastic containing no metal and it must be almost the same color as hair color. I bought a large assorted elactic thingee. Problem is, I break a lot of them. They don't stretch but so much and my hair is so thick that they really need to. I put mine up by pulling up into a pony tail and then pulling it through (pony tail end tucked into third ring of elastic). I imagine by time I graduate I'll be bald from hair breakage. I have too many layers to do a bun (pieces escape before I can pin them) so this is the only way to go for me. It's a nightmare trying to double it when it's damp though. Usually takes me five or so tries before it's doubled and still looks neat. Now, if we could get by with looking any ole way.......well, I'd be set.

Tanzanite-

I had long all through school (bra/mid back area) and always had it in a pony tail and always felt like it looked messy- really thick and curly so it would get frizzy and never look "neatly" pulled back. So about 3 weeks left in school I cut it ALL off- it is now short enough that I finger it forward with gel and that's it- I am talking 1-2 inches long on the top of my head...I start work next week so I'll let you know how it goes. I had only had it long for my wedding (which was 2 years ago) so I knew it would be time to part with it soon- but just was not ready yet- I was finally ready about 10 weeks ago.

If you can do short hair- go for it!

I wear mine in a bun for clinicals. Much easier to deal with than having to fix short hair all the time.

I wear it in a long braid for work though.

My hair is down to the small of my back. Wearing a ponytail gives me headaches, so I wear it in a bun. What I do is twist my hair, than tie it in a knot, and twist the remaining around the knot..I use bobby pins. I had considered cutting my hair and donating it..but I have chubby cheeks and don't want it too short(makes me look really fat). Also, I would like to still wear it in a bun.

Pony tail girl here :) mine's thick n curly..is just easier for me to slap it in a pony tail and go..lol

Very short haired girl here! It's longer in the front and sorta pixie-ish in the back...The front get's in my eyes so I just use a clip or head band to pull it off my face.

how funny you should mention this...I just lopped off about 3" today (still past my shoulders)and actually had her cut me some bangs. I just can't stand how I look in a ponytail so the bangs kind of offset my round face. One thing I noticed is that I have to "retrain" my bangs because I've had a center part in my hair for so long!

I had mine long (waist length) all through school.

Kept it in a braid at all times.

My hair is past my shoulders, but was layered around my face. I have spent the last year growing out the sides so they can be pulled back into a ponytail without little pieces falling out. I have finally gotten there! Just in time as I start clinicals in January (I hope).

I have had my hair both short and long enough to put in a pony tail. In my case, I have the bad habit of tucking my hair behind my ears when it is down, which is a big no-no in the NICU where I want to work, so I wear mine at my shoulders so I can pull it back. It all depends on you!

The only thing I have found in my years going between long and short is that when it is short, I have to style it everyday, which can be a pain, but with long hair, you can throw it up if you are in a hurry. I know a 7 am clinical comes pretty early when I have to get up at 5am!

I went from waist length to a haircut like Halle Berry or Sharon Stone short recently and love it. It literally takes me 3 min. in the morning, if that to fix it and it looks professional. And I'm really short, so long hair just overpowers me and hides my face. I look much thinner with short hair and just feel better. My hair is super thick so when it's longer, it's a pain in the butt to take care of. I usually grow it out long, cut it off and donate to Locks of Love, then grow it out again, and repeat the cycle. But I have a feeling I'm going to keep it short for a long time to come!!
