All I can say is I am definitly going to be BROKE!!!!!! Our books?!? $800 due on the first day of classes!!!:selfbonk:We didnt get into depth about what we are going to be studying and how the classes are going to work she said we will leave that until the first day...though she did not neglect to tell us that we will INDEED have homework the first night! Bummer. We went over financial aid and how to register for the class. First day is Aug 21st and we have alot of stuff we have to have done by then..physicals, background checks, shots, money, etc. Whew my head was spinning! :bugeyes:But I am way excited!!!!! We also have random drug tests throughout the year that are $25, that means you must have that on you at all times or its like you automatically fail and you get kicked out of the program. They are no joke. But anywho just wanted to let everyone know...my journey has officially begun!!
P.S. Anyone else start in August??

Congratulations! You are on your way. It is enough to make your head spin but I kept saying to myself a certain number of students are going to be successful and get through this program and I surely would be one of them.

I'm starting in August as well and havent had my orientation yet, so thank you for the breakdown on what you learned. I really need to get my financial aid in order. I'm still working out the details as far as paying off an old school debt so that I'm free to receive aid and all. I have to pay for all but my tuition myself though and I have no idea how I would come up with that much at once. ugh

we pay for our books semester by semester. thank god.
I just assumed that was for 1 semester, oops lol
I'm at a cc so we do things semester by semester pretty much too. I cant wait to go to orientation and see what the exact deal is.
just check with your school. we pay for tuition semester by semester and books the same way. my programs is 4 semesters.

Congrats! I also had orientation on May 14th- not for LPN, but for the dental hygiene program. I am a CNA though so I still check out all the posts on this site.
It is definitely overwhelming. I start my program on Sept 3rd and I have a LOT to get done before then. Congrats again and good luck during nursing school.

Good luck dior princess the best of luck to you and the best advise I can give is stick with it, READ, READ, READ, I am an LPN student we started april 28th 2008 and I cannot begin to tell you how much work I just had my first case study that is due today and I am beet:Dit is alot of work and reading but it is so worth it so far I am breezing through A&P and nursing fundamentals when I don't understand I just read the chapter over and over again till I get it:yeah: The good thing about my program is that all our books are covered in tuition the only book we had to buy was a care plan book to do our case studies and care plans. It is exciting but nerve wrecking at the same time lol..... we start actual clinicals on aug 3rd can't wait, but we have a lab in school that is set up like an actual hospital room with pt dummies that have fake body fluids lol kool isn't it, ok enough about me please keep me posted and remember study study study.
I wish we paid by the semester. the only good thing about buying all the books up front is they are the books we are using throughout the year so next semester I wont have to worry about anything but tuition. Our third semester our maternity books are only $100 so I think thats what they were trying to do, get the most expensive stuff out of the way. We could pay for our books using financial aid but out class starts a week before the college class and checks wont be out until basically three weeks after we start and we need books on the first day.
I guess its a good thing I like to read anyway. Since that seems to be a key note in the success of the program. Good luck to those who are already head in the program and those of us who havent started yet.....WOO SAH!!! We can make it:chuckle

Wow !!! I consider myself very fortunate to be in the program/school that I'm in....our local hospital likes to "homegrow" it's nurses, so it pays for all schooling/books/physicals/etc, and am guaranteed a job with them upon passing the NCLEX (not paid for...haha). Just have to spend X amount of time "working it off," or, they give you several months to buy your way out of your "indentured servitude" (of sorts ) . I could get my license and immediately go work elsewhere, but would need to repay them $XXXX within 6 months, or something like that... I'm extremely pleased with the deal, as my previous profession is drying up in my area, and it's not a profession worth pulling up the stakes and moving elswehere, that much is certain.
Carry on, all y'all, and best wishes/luck/etc towards all of our schooling
