Specializes in Just a CNA for now....

It's been a long long long time since I've been on this discussion form, last time I did, I had just received my CNA license in high school almost a year ago.

Well, I've been working at our local hospital on the Tele floor and I LOVE IT!!!!!! Yep. They let me start working a month before I turned 18!

Now everyone, I'm starting to get a little stressed out. In February, I'm applying for....NURSING SCHOOL!!! And if I get accepted, I'll start in Aug of 2009, so I'll be 19 starting nursing school!!!! I'm so excited and I can't wait!!! I'm just really nervous about getting in. I'm in my pre reqs now, AP1, ill be finished with that next month, then in the spring term, i'll take AP2 and Micro together, so hopefully they admissions people wont turn me down because I haven't completed them, but I'll be enrolled in them the time I apply.

Then, after my school years are done, and I work for the little hospital for 2 years to repay my school, I plan to move to a BIG CITY! I'm a small town rinky dink girl, and I want to go somewhere big and gain some great experience before I try to travel. Any suggestions?? And for those of you who live in Philly, Pittsburgh, NY, and the northern states, what are some awesome hospitals in those city's? I really really really really love Cardiac, and I think I want to go into some type of Critical Care, maybe Cardiac Intensive Care, something exciting like that. (I'm an adreneline junkie, and I actually was fully involved in a code blue a few wks ago. I love that type of stuff!)

Anyways, any input is always greatly appriciated!! I want to be one of the best nurses out there! And besides that, there's a whole world of people to meet and see, and well, I want to meet it all!!

Take care everyone! Hope to hear from you all!!

Congrats !!!! :yeah: I'm 19 and a nursing student. The funny thing is that if I graduate when I expect( which is July 09) I still won't be able to have a glass of wine with my fellow classmates ! I think its nice that I'll be old enough to save peoples lives but not old enough to buy wine to celebrate. But that okay ! I'll be so busy praising God anyway for getting me through this :wink2:

Specializes in Med Surg/Ortho.

Just wanted to say congrats, and good luck with nursing school. Now I never worked in a hospital in NY, but grew up in upstate NY. Loved it and would go back in a second. My father worked at Albany Med (not a nurse though), and thought it was a great hospital, they see a lot of trauma. Not sure about NYC hospitals, I would go on the NY forum...been on there a couple times and they have been very helpful. On a side note, my brother and his family live outside of Pittsburgh, and they love it there. Actually live in a small town near Penn State College.

Specializes in ICU, ER.

Johns Hopkins in Baltimore MD is worth thinking about. I was just an inpatient fot 31 days, the quality of care was great-no one seemed stressed or overworked, all the RNs spoke highly of management and were happy with their compensation.

Specializes in cardiac, ortho, med surg, oncology.
