Pt came in and wrote on her triage request "something wrong with my asolfajust" Just gotta luv trying to guess what pts are here for.

probably the patient skipped taht day in high school when the teacher is trying to teach how to spell esophagus... so he wrote it the way he would say it...

A man I was triaging once was rubbing his right hand/wrist and said,

"Miss, I think I have the Coppertone"

It took me a couple of minutes to figure that one out.

I should start keeping a list of some of the funny things patient's have written that I get to interpret. Some that come to mind..

inersimm (aneurysm)

insefiatittes (encephalitis)

and I've seen many amusing spellings of diarrhea

...On the form for the dr. where it asked "Why did you come in today?" He wrote "Because my wife made me."

That's right up there with "What brings you in today?" and the patient replies "DART bus" or "my neighbor's car"...

Well, the truth of the matter is that America has a 8th grade reading level. I bet that is exactly how an 8th grader would spell that.....

I also love it when you try to pronounce the horrible spelling in the triage interview and they pronounce it right and look at you like you are the idiot who cannot pronounce instead of the patient being the idiot who cannot spell

One of my all time favs is vomiking. I've seen this so much that sometimes I question MY spelling!
