GTCC Spring 2016

Published

Hello All,

Just thought I would start this thread because applications are due in a little over a month. Just wanted to know who was applying to the program in the spring. I did a preliminary MAR review, and I think I have around 55 points. I haven't taken the TEAS test yet, which I am dreading because I have barely studied for it. I'm going to try to take it in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully a solid two weeks of studying will be enough. With the points that I have, all I have to do is pass the test. Look forward to hearing from more people.

Don't worry about humanities. Take hum115 with Rawley online. It actually frustrating, how easy it is. As far as TEAS, I took it yesterday and got an 84.7! Not a clue how that happened. I did study for it though. There were over 10 others in that room taking the same test. Not everyone passed, judging by their faces. Which stinks. My printout with results said the program average score at GTCC is only 64. I thought the test was hard. Or annoying. I'm not sure which one because I was nervous. I ended up with 61 points altogether because the requirements changed. I'm also sad that ACA course didn't count because that class was awful! I think that there's just some changes going on at GTCC. Regardless of these changes, the pass rate and NCLEX pass rate at GTCC are still some of the best as far as community colleges go. It will be fine guys! Hard, but fine! Stop worrying and be excited for the letters coming in 2 weeks! í ½í¸† Good luck!

The assumption is (at least when I talked to the admissions director) that because I have a bachelors degree, that the nursing program will substitute one of my other humanities courses. They just can't give me points for the one's I have taken. In terms of them changing the pre reqs, the director told me that because a lot of students only have ADN's when they graduate, some are having trouble getting into RN to BSN programs because they don't have the pre requisite courses needed for those programs. The nursing school changed the curriculum around to one that they felt would best get students into RN to BSN programs since BSNs are becoming a requirement to work now.

I'm excited though. After a year of taking pre reqs, I can't believe that I'm finally starting to see the finish line. I'm confident that I'm getting into the program, but I'm not going to rest easy until I see that acceptance letter in the mail. Really do wish a lot more students would post here though. I would love to get to know people before we started the program.

When I began looking into different nursing schools, I quickly realized that there were several courses that I would need to get into an RN to BSN program that were not prerequisites for GTCC's program. I am currently taking classes to fill these requirements while I am waiting to get into the program here. I am taking Statistics now along with a History and Public Speaking class which are all requirements for the RN to BSN program at UNCG. This way I have quite a few courses finished for a future BSN program. I think that its a good idea that they are awarding points for courses that we will need for a BSN program. Its a lot of work but I'm sure it will be worth it. My advice to anyone is to make sure you do your own research on requirements and prerequisites because advisers may not always point you in the right direction.

Yeah the two schools I'm looking at are UNCW's and UC Denver's (if I find a job in that city) online RN to BSN programs. If I do UC Denver, I would have to take Gen Chem over again because I got a C- in that course, but I am good to go for UNCW's program. The reason I want to do RN to BSN online is because I will be able to work the same time I am doing the program. But you are right, students should look into what programs they want to go to and investigate what the requirements are. The beauty of UNCWs is that you can still take pre reqs while you are in the program.

To anyone living in the Greensboro, does anyone know of any apartments in the area that do not have breed restrictions? I have been do apartment hunting in the area and have found plenty of pet friendly apartments. However, because my dog is half german shepherd, it is considered too aggressive of a breed, which is sad because my dog is the sweetest one I have ever owned. Any suggestions will help.

HEY everyone!!!! I am so glad someone has already started a thread for GTCC Spring 2016 class. I applied with 61 points so I'm fairly confident I will get it, but regardless I'm anxiously awaiting the acceptance letter so it's official! :) I wish everyone the best of luck and hopefully we'll soon enough get to meet each other!

From what I have heard from friends who have recently been in the program and have made it out alive. They have changed the curriculum so from what it once was it is more "organized", or I guess it kind of flows better and subjects aren't as scattered. They have changed the test passing score from a 70, to a 72 and now I believe from the information session its a 78! EEK! I heard it's hard enough just to get a 70 or 72! :nailbiting: Lord, help us all! lol

jbrent890: I can't believe they consider a german shepard an aggressive breed, that's ridiculous. But to answer your question, I currently live at Lake Brandt Apartments and as far as I know they will accept any breed except for pit or pit mix. I have a boxer, and have seen a lot of different breeds while walking around the complex. Also, there is a trail right at the very end of the complex that runs into Old Battleground Park and my boxer loves it.

There is also Lincoln Green you could try that is right across the street from Old Battleground Park and like not even 2 mins from Lake Brandt Apts that has a "bark park". Not sure on breed restrictions though, and just a fair warning they do change their prices daily for rent rates :/

Hope this helps!

Just wanted to let you all know that I emailed admissions today to find out when the letters should be going out and they said they should be out by the end of the week.

That was fast. So we should all have our letters by next week then. It looks like we have a good crop this time around to. On previous threads, there is usually only one person who has more than 50 points. I have counted three thus far on this thread.

ORNurse2be: Thanks for the info and yes, you should be good to go. The counselor I talked to said that they haven't cut anybody with more than 50 points in years. Yes it is very frustrating. My dog is one of the sweetest you will ever meet. I will give your complex a call tomorrow though. I checked out the website and it said no aggressive breeds. Unfortunately, German Shepards are considered one of the big three (shepards, pitt bulls, rottweilers) that are aggressive breeds. But hopefully it works out. The other complex you told me about was a no go though. I found a 2 bedroom that is essentially 10 mins from everything is Greensboro, including school, so I hope it will still be available in January when I move.

Just curious...does anyone know how the alternate list works? Do they give you a number and or do they just tell you that you're on the list and wait for a call?

Students in previous threads knew what number they were on the alternate list. How they figured that out, I do not know. Try to keep a positive mindset though.

Hi guys I am also waiting to get my acceptance letter. I also noticed that they took away many points we could accumulate. I applied with 36 and Im praying thats enough to get it. I trust that it will happen in GOD's time. Any comments are welcome. Im so anxious to find out...do you all believe thats enough points? Either way I wish everyone success and good luck. I look forward to meeting and working with you all!!!
