GTCC Spring 2016

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hello All,

Just thought I would start this thread because applications are due in a little over a month. Just wanted to know who was applying to the program in the spring. I did a preliminary MAR review, and I think I have around 55 points. I haven't taken the TEAS test yet, which I am dreading because I have barely studied for it. I'm going to try to take it in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully a solid two weeks of studying will be enough. With the points that I have, all I have to do is pass the test. Look forward to hearing from more people.

Hello! I also am applying for the Spring 2015 entry! I can't believe how quickly the deadline is approaching. I have already taken the TEAS test but I have not gone for my MAR review yet. My points probably won't be that high. I am going to take BIO 165 this semester and BIO 166 next semester. Other than that, I have completed all of the other prerequisites.

Those are tough classes but doable. I knew that I did want to take any extra classes while I am in the program, so I busted my but to get all my pre reqs done over the summer. Taking 4 classes over the summer was not fun, but at least I get the semester off and I don't have to worry about any extra classes while I am in the program. On another note, I'm surprised this thread hasn't gotten more attention, especially with the deadline coming up. Maybe not that many people are applying this time around.

Yea I'm hoping just to have worry about Bio-166 in the Spring with nursing classes and then that's it. Friends in the program have told me it's doable the first semester but after that it's not a good idea.

And yea normally the gtcc threads have a lot of responses. We're less than a month a way so I thought more people would be posting. I know for the fall semester application this past February they had to extend the deadline because they had the fewest # of applicants they've ever had so I wonder if that will be the case again this time around.

Yeah I saw that last semester as well. It really makes me worried about the future of the program. I put all my eggs in one basket in terms of applying to this school. I would hate that they cancelled the spring program because not enough people applied. I guess on the bright side, it makes it easier for us to get in.

Thats cool that you have friends in the program. How do they feel about it as a whole?

Hey everyone! I plan on applying, just trying to get the money together to pay for the TEAS. I have 65 points so I just have to pass I think. I think the decline in interest for the program is due to them making it so difficult previously that folks are just going elsewhere. I've also heard the program is extremely unorganized. I hope some restructuring occurs at some point. Good luck to everyone applying!

I went to the application session today and there were a few people there. I also had my MAR review today and found out I have 56 points, so you and I are in the same boat. All we need to do is pass the TEAS and we are in the program. I have also heard those same things about the program. In fact, I have heard more negative things about the program than positive. However, I have been in school for the last 8 years (I already have a bachelors and a masters), so at this point in the game it really is about getting a degree and getting out. Even though its going to be rough, the program is only a year and a half. Good luck to you too!!!

Why not a BSN as a second degree option at UNCG?

Thats the million dollar question. I actually applied to both UNCG and UNC in the fall for the May start dates this year. Sadly, I got turned down by both schools because I was still taking physiology. Even then my cumulative GPA is only a 3.0, which is not high enough to get into those schools. In addition, regular BSN programs do not really accept that many second degree students. They prefer they go the ABSN route. If I remember correctly both UNC and UNCG only accepted around 15 to 20 second degree students out of a class 120 students. I thought about applying to other schools in the state, but a lot of schools make you go through the wire in terms of pre reqs. I would essentially being doing undergrad over again before I actually started nursing school. With this program, I am completely done with the pre reqs. I actually have the semester off, which I am thoroughly enjoying right now. Lastly, finances is a huge consideration. I went to Elon for undergrad and even though it is an amazing school, it raped me financially. I really do not know how much more financial aid I will be able to get. This program for an instate student is exceedingly cheap. I plan to do RN to BSN at UNCW, which is not that much more expensive. If I go down this route, I will be saving myself $20,000.

Sounds like the same situation I've been in. I'll be doing the RN to BSN too. Glad I'm not the only one who had a hard time with UNCG.
