I have been put into group one, which is a reporting agency that allows other healthcare facilitys to see why I was terminated. I was not given a chance to resign before termination. My question is, can I request to have it changed? Is this a type of discrimination? all this is making me want to get out of healthcare all together, seems like i will allways have a disadvantage being a guy and all.
I've heard that before too but I still think it's a crock and could be challenged in court. There is a reason why there are laws in place preventing previous employers from saying bad things about you to potential new employers. Thats' why your new hospital can't just call up your old employer and ask certain questions about you. Hence to get around this, Group One comes in and saves the day.The fair credit reporting act deals with FACTS such as how many days late you paid Visa and how many credit cards and loans you have out or how much these loans are. FACTS.
Group One reports subjective data like "Poor/substandard performance"- no facts to back up this blanket statement of course but that's good enough for the DFW hospitals.
I know this may sound ignorant on my part, but WHY does a potential employer need to know my credit history? It doesn't seem fair.
this is why i'm seriously thinking of not going to nursing school, after all this time, and all this work, to finish pre-req's and stuff. i'd like to know who exactly owns this corporation, and what their sole purpose in life is. scum. i'm sorry to those of you whom this affects, i have read the expantion plans, however, there are many different faucets to this business, i pulled up their company profile and such. this is a current list of the people whom they provide their "prestigious" service to :

i guess, i wouldn't work for anyone who uses this crack heads. it sucks for the patients, but, you know.......everybody deserves to be treated like a human, not scrutinized like a freeking drunken monkey ( i did change my words here :angryfire ) as for the la, thing. it applies only to the rn/lvn's and such that had to relocate because of the hurricanes, and sought employment in texas, primarily in the dfw area.
the fact of the matter is dfwhc, owns group one, they've made this nightmare a reality.
good luck ladies !
Well, it is one thing to be negligent or perform poor pt. care.
Which is what the TX BNE is for.
Not some for-profit company that helps hospitals keep their nurses living in fear and willing to accept any unsafe patient assignement thrown at them or face the stigma of getting the scarlet letter of Group One.
Hospitals are simply trying to get around the law involving bad-mouthing ex-employees.
That law was put into place for a reason and that reason was vindictive managers making unfair and untrue statements about their old employees which prevented them from obtaining future employement.

I've been reading this board for two and half years now ... and I can't help but make this observation. At first you think, it's a message board. You can't take everything that people post seriously. It's not like it's scientific evidence or anything like that.
But, over time, it seems like the worse things happen to nurses in Texas. When someone posts a horror story, there always seems to be a good chance that it's coming out of Texas.
And now comes this Group One thing ... which seems to confirm that all the horror stories ... and worse ... are true. It's unbelieveable.
It isn't just one hospital ... but an actual organized effort by several Dallas area hospitals to bypass the laws and force RN's to take unsafe assignments (among other things) with the threat of an unsubstantiated black mark from Group One.
It's totally shocking, to say the least.
I know Texas RN's are vehemently anti-union (which is weird since they seem to need unions more than anybody else) but .... I do hope something can be done to change things there. If not union then, perhaps something else because ... this is insane.
I continue to be stunned by the way RN's are treated in Texas.

You can complain and you can go work in some other city and you can stay out of nursing or whatever you decide to do, but this *IS* a growing practice, it *IS* spreading - and not just in healthcare but in other industries as well, and until those who have been wronged step up and take ACTION nothing will CHANGE. All the complaining and whining and changing careers and working elsewhere will not change it. The attitude is that if you are mad enough at GO to leave DFW then you are probably someone they wouldnt want working in one of their member hospitals anyway.
Under the law, all you can do is follow the fair credit reporting act to change what is not accurate information. Just as a creditor can not put a comment saying you were crazy on your credit report - neither can a past employer. That *IS* libel or slander or one of those and you would have recourse under the law.
I'm not an attorney, I just know the FCRA because I had a problem with a particular creditor and had to exercise my rights. I have never had problems with GO, I hope I never do. I feel for thoseof you who are dealing with them, and I would encourage you all to get in contact with each other as a group and seek assistance. I don't think what they are doing is right, but it is legal unfortunately.
