Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
For the GCU veterans out there, which courses do NOT have a CLC component? So far I am aware of Statistics, Spirituality, and Leadership. What about Trends, Pathophysiology or Capstone?

Well this made my night...none in Spirituality or Leadership? Nice! I have heard that Capstone is missing one as well. That is the best thing about Stats right now, well that and I'm in week 3 and have not flunked out, yet! If I could just get DQ 2 done now...I feel like a dog chasing my tail, if I could just remember that I cannot catch it I would be better off, right?!!!!
I would take 10 Statistics classes over 1 Ethics. Just found out that if we go over our word count in our Ethics CLC by more than 10% she starts deducting points. Yikes!
The DQs in Stats were the worst! So boring and dry. Aside from the DQs though, Stats has been the easiest course so far - no papers or CLC.
Can I give you a partial like? LOL! True that on those DQ. How DO you discuss those DQ? I was like "Oh yes, I so believe a median is WAAAY cooler than the mean, and what about those chi squares? Those are the season favorite...
The unlike part is you saying it was easy. I think my brain was going to explode like Winters. Just trying to think outside the box after a 12 hour shift when my brain was already numb was painful. I thank God for my husband who would explain everything in simpler terms.

She JUST mentioned that and it wasn't in the announcement? That's sneaky...
Yep - she only mentioned it because I asked her about it in the Questions to Instructor Forum. One of our group members said she was going over on her word count and I wanted to get our instructor's opinion on it before we proceeded.
Regarding Statistics, the tutors are responsible for making the class relatively easy. They totally held my hand and guided me in the right direction. The first week I thought I was going to die, but after that I got the hang of it. The best part of the class was having weekends free because I wasn't working on a paper or project.
Yep. They are just going down the line 1 - 9 and addressing each point. Once I actually pick a topic, I don't think it will be that bad. I just keep telling myself "It will all be over soon." In 18 days will be done with both classes and will have a week off! I always make sure I finish everything in the class by Friday of the last week so I can breathe over the weekend.
I am glad I am not the only one counting days. But Ethics and Leadership are the two classes that were at the top of my "sounds interesting" list. 17 days here, and I am hoping to be done on the Friday so really 15 (fingers crossed). Either way, half way point is reached, yay!

My hubs totally does this for me, I actually tried to talk to the tutor and nearly cried (and I am NOT a crier). I was like, can you talk to my husband please...I am finally finding some blogs that help too! The thing with the DQs is that everyone is regurgitating the same thing. Oh yes, t tests are preferred if the n 30 but only if you know the SD, someone seriously take me out to the pasture....I guess chi is ahead, that and I peaked at next week ANOVA? SMH!

LOL !!! I just took Statistics and Research and have already blocked all of that nonsense from my mind. What a waste of time!

Some of those DQ I could relate too and others, I was so lost. I didn't even know how to answer those kind of responses. I cried in two..wait three classes. The first one (OMG, what I have gotten myself into??? I HAVE to write a paper on the IOM?) third class, family health (HOLY CRAP MY LAPTOP CRASHED) and finally stats (OMG, what have I gotten myself into? LOL).

Retain some of research because it's what the capstone is based on!
