Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I can barely remember what teachers I had. Well, besides my last instructor for Capstone. She was awesome. The rest I think I have blocked from my memory.

How do we know which instructors are teaching and how do we get to choose? My advisor has just been plugging me into classes.

In a perfect world, the classes would be listed and alllllllll the instructors that teach that class would be listed under the class. But sadly, that's not how it is here. Everyone gets plugged into classes by computer, who the instructor is is always a surprise. The only way I've ever found a way around this is to call my advisor and ask "who's teaching class NRS-whatever starting on 8/4?". They can look it up and tell you which classes have seats available and who the instructor is, but they don't know the instructors personally so don't have any advice for you just based on the name. It really is an arduous process, I just left it up to chance for Ethics and so far so good.

I'm going into Spirituality next and then Public Health next. I've been happy with all my professors so far. I hope that feeling continues!

OH man! I haven't been here in ages! I took a long break (4 wonderful, amazing weeks spent in India!!!) and am feeling all foggy. I need to get as much school work tonight and tomorrow before I travel again for a wedding.

My last teacher made a comment on my last big project in Concepts in Community and Public Health to review her comments on my paper to "assist in [my] growth in future writing projects." I was so curious to see what she wrote while I was on vacation. I came home last night and was so disappointed. Of the 21 comments only two were not about formatting, "good" and "well done."

I kept making the same mistakes throughout the paper. I have been using Purdue Online Writing Lab which was a suggested resource. They very well may be mistakes for APA but I double checked and I think I followed OWL's formatting so I am dyin' to get to the bottom of it.

I don't have the APA manual because it's not a required book and we spend so much for our books already. Do you guys find that OWL has mistakes when looking at the APA manual? Also I'm living in the Netherlands and everything is so darn expensive here.

I used this because the website didn't have any kind of publishing /updated date or copyright date. She said I should have used 2014 because this is when I accessed the info. Is this true?

Also I referenced the CDC in text like this

(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2014)

She said this is incorrectly cited, not APA.

When you have a new heading subheading, if just the heading falls on the bottom of the page are you supposed to use a page break/ enter so that if falls with the body of the text? Unlucky coincidence for me but two times in my paper the heading was the last line of the page.

Sorry this is soooooooooo long!! I just want to further my growth and figure this APA stuff out!! I think when I go home I'll try to pick up a copy.

Hi everyone. I am in desperate need of instructor suggestions for Assessment and Pathophysiology. If you had an instructor that you really liked or one that you really would not recommend, please PM me ASAP.

I am in my first week of doubling up on Family and Ethics. So far so good. I am NOT excited over the CLC for Ethics though. It is 2 parts over weeks 4 and 5 and it counts for 550 points of the grade! Who comes up with this stuff?

I will PM you the name of the instructor I just had for Health Assessment. Loved this instructor!! Generous with grading and very active with the students. Also, replies to questions quickly. And I looked it up and this instructor also teaches Patho!

I'm about to start Community Health next week and I am absolutely dreading it. I don't want to do the teaching presentation. I either want to see if I can put the class off, or get recommendations on instructors that aren't so picky on the facility we teach at.

I finished everything around 6:00, but feel brain dead. My brain keeps telling me "C's get degrees!" LOL

Not sure if these are the best papers I have ever produced, but after having to evaluate another student's paper in my Spirituality class, I know what true crap our instructors face and I know that mine will never be that bad.

Seriously though, I don't think I will be doubling up again. There is absolutely no reprieve. There is always something else to work on. The good news is that the rest of my classes will seem extra easy!

OMG, I was so mad about the CLC project in spirituality. The first paper is supposed to be a rough draft, right? Well, mine wasn't perfect, but darn close. The person who graded mine, was stinking nit picky and the professor totally took me to the cleaners. I think that rough draft had 15 points knocked off.

momtofore,

We only chose the Capstone and stats person. Otherwise, we let chance decide it for us.

1) Go to the APA website. That'll save you from buying a book.

2) Are you using 6th edition? Is your instructor using 6th edition??

3) The CDC is the correct way to cite in the body of the paper, the first time. After that you should do (CDC, 2014). I used n.d if there was no date of the information and I also found this:

Date – Beware: many websites include a current date feature, which dates the page with today’s date. This is not the date upon which the information was written, it is the date you are viewing it. In your citation, you need to include the date the information was written or copyrighted.

  1. Copyright Date - generally found at the bottom of the page; if a date range is given (2007-2010), give only the most current year - 2010.

  2. A byline date is sometimes used near the top of the webpage: May 1, 2004
  3. A date of last update may be found at the top or bottom of the page and looks something like: Updated: 8:43 a.m. MT May 10, 2009.
  4. If the website has no date associated with it, your citation will reflect this by an (n.d.) where the date should be.

I think your instructor is wrong-o!!

4) Always, make sure the headings are on the same page as the information. If you go back and edit or do some sort of formatting, check placement. There are times that things will creep up the page.
