What Members Are Saying (AI-Generated Summary)

Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I miss sleeping

What is "sleep"??

I miss sleeping

OMG, I know! I don't miss coming home from work, passing through the living room, saying hi to my family and going to bed with my laptop and working until midnight on a paper, only to get up at 0430 and get ready for work.

One of the first things I did was sleep in!!

Thank you, Tokmom for your motivating words. I'm getting out of my little funk, I think. I'm getting so excited for this class to be over so I can start Health Assessment. Are there any recommendations for this class? Or any instructors to avoid? PM if so.

Thanks so much and CONGRATS to you on your BSN!!!! I cannot wait to be in your shoes!

Thank you!

Ignore my post to you on the other thread. I didn't know you were this way too.

Anyway, I can't really say to much about my professors/instructors. I only had a potential difficult instructor that I dropped before I started the class, and the one I had for spirituality, graded very hard. I barely got an A in that class, and I was glad to see it over.

TIP: Check out the announcements before you start the class. The classroom is typically loaded on Friday, so you have the entire weekend to go through and read their announcements and other personal tidbits that clue you in to the difficulty.

If you read an announcement that gives you the willies and you want a different instructor, do NOT post on the wall or anywhere on the forum, when it officially opens on Monday. Call your advisor and get moved. Pandora and I avoided potential problems with an instructor that did not seem like a good personality fit, by reading the rules and regulations in the announcement section.

Oh, for those that want to know or care, lol. I guess you can officially call yourself a BSN on the Monday after your last class/week. So as of Sunday night at midnight, it is official. :)

Congratulations tokmom!

If you have a chance can you give me a quick overview of the capstone? Like how does it work, and do we have DQ's and a CLC project? I'm still thinking about my PICO and I thought you wrote somewhere that you have to have 16 articles or so to support it?

By the way you were right about Trends & Issues class (I would take ethics again to avoid it). I had to jump out of the first Trends class and get into another because I had one of your not recommended teachers, the one that gives you a 0 if you miss something in your APA stuff.

Yikes on the trends teacher! Glad you dodged the bullet. APA is difficult enough, without the pressure of a zero percent.

Capstone:

No CLC, but yes on DQ. Sorry! Those buggers are around until the END!

Paper: The large paper is submitted in week 5, but built upon in prior week. Every week you do a piece of the paper, ie..PICO, problem statement, literature review and submit for a grade. Our professor graded the papers and gave them back to us with corrections needed. We would fix our errors and file the paper away. Once we got to week 5, all the papers are condensed into one large paper. The large paper needs to be edited for redundancy and errors, if any.

Articles: I can't stress enough that having an idea of your topic, and having articles at hand, really takes away the stress. You will need 15 peer reviewed articles, with 8 being research articles.

Thanks tokmom, I appreciate the info. I am glad that there is no more CLC work after Trends. This Trends class is too much info and work for a 5 week class and I feel like I keep repeating the same thing over and over. I can't wait to be done with this one.

Trends was freaking painful!

Trends was freaking painful!

I definitely agree with you!:banghead: I think they want us to be experts on health care reform and what is even worse this time is it's week 2 and I have absolutely no grades at all on anything so I can't tell if I'm doing ok or not :(. I will be complaining about this teacher. I love it how some of them put this long ass introduction of themselves on the wall about being so enthusiastic then they barely participate or give you any feedback (hypocrites!):sarcastic:

Ugh, I'm not looking forward to it! Any input on who to take or avoid?
