Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Yes, I know, that is why I was waiting until this Sunday. She posted a grade for DQ 1 and participation for week 1 today, so I'll continue to wait. I actually found an instructors online GCU manual and read pieces of it. I don't want to **** off the instructor though and tell her "your manual states..." Not worth it. I would have to call the advisor if no grading happened for over a week, better stay anonymous or simply and politely send the teacher a private msg.
Ugh, I'm not looking forward to it! Any input on who to take or avoid?
We'll this teacher for trends is slow at grading. But ask me in 2 weeks, I'll tell you if you should avoid her. I am working my behind off a lot in this class, it's just a lot of info and the writing assignments seem kind of obtuse (I don't know how else to put it) whoever wrote them must've used a map to do it!! A lot of convoluted writing!

That last bit is not what I wanted to hear. Why do they do that??? Why?

I don't know, but reading and trying to interpret the first assignment's instructions was like listening to a 5 year old talking without taking a breath, all run on sentences.
What you can do is sent a pm and ask in a worried tone of your paper was accidentally lost in the drop box. I mean some things get missed. It's not like we can ask another student if they got their grades back (unless you know someone).
It sucks to have a papers out and no grade. You never know how they grade until you have at least 2 papers out there. Very scary.
Trends doesn't seem to agree with anyone, lol! Those papers were obtuse and the syllabus convoluted. I get the IOM, and all that, but sheesh, shoot me now!

Yup, I am going to be IOMed to deaaaath!
So is trends IOM focused? Their papers are so long!!!

Kind of, 2 assignments are reflective papers (about self) and not longer than 1000 words. Group assignment is a presentation thank goodness.
PurpleMyst...I will, thanks! (your inbox is full)

Yes tokmom, this actually happened to me and several students in my last class -- it was week 4, Sunday night at 2330, hadn't gotten paper #3 back yet and I read someone's panicked QFI to teacher asking that very question. Within 5 minutes there was a reply from Teach saying that she had posted several students' graded assignments earlier in the week but that they didn't seem to be showing so she would resubmit them immediately. Sure enough, couple minutes later we all had our papers back. So, it does happen!

If you're in week two, the instructor has until this coming Sunday midnight to post your week one grades, including DQs. It stinks, but nearly all of them take that entire time. If, however, week three starts and you still haven't received feedback on your first paper, it's time to take action. You may not be hip to doing this for fear of retribution (which would be lame), but you may consider calling your advisor and saying something. See if they can do it anonymously, but it needs to be done. Instructors are not just "supposed" to post grades every Sunday midnight (starting the 2nd Sunday of class), they HAVE to. It's in the instructor's rule book - nonnegotiable - it simply must be done, and any instructor who is not posting by Sun MN needs to be reminded that this is a requirement. Period. Grrrrr.
